Although Avax has a very interesting and growing avantgarde community, some of you already know there are some other places in the web that have a simular focus, and offer very interesting and different material as well. With this post I'd like to draw your attention to one of these spots, called the Avant Garde Project. Someone named Lou is systematically converting out-of-print avantgarde LP's to FLAC, and posting them first through BT and after some time as a straight DL from his own server, ranging from Mauricio Kagel or Sylvano Bussotti to Weimar 20-30's or Pauline Oliveiros, and much more. I recently dl-ed all his stuff up to AGP66, and I have to say: the greatest respect, a very nice collection for those who want to expand their horizon. I could mirror the whole lot to RS and post it here, but the best thing is, you check AGP out yourselves. As an introduction to Lou's stuff, here's Paul Hindemith's 'Marienleben', based on poems by Rilke, in two versions: the 1923 original and the 1948 revision. Beautifully written and performed. When I first heard it, I got the impression Hindemith was actually laying down the template for all US-musicals from the 40's-60's - and the jazz emerging from that -, but then, already POST it, if you understand what I mean. And yes, I admit, I was tempted to re-edit the high quality LP-rip on analogue hiss and crackles, but I decided to leave it, as a tribute to the days people were still appreciating the full range of realit y. For your convenience, I just converted the original separate FLAC's to an eac with appropriate cue-files.
