Sarah Jane Morris - In Concert (2005) (DVD5)
Video: NTSC 720x480 (4:3) | Audio: DD 5.1, PCM 2.0 | 4.09 GB (RAR 5% Rec.) | Time: 60 mins | Covers
Genre: Jazz, Soul, Blues | Label: in-akustik GmbH & Co. KG | Catalog #: INAK 6535-1

This Ohne Filter performance was recorded on March 29, 1990. London's Time Out magazine called her "a singer and actress with a voice so deep it's almost subterranean and so bluesy your mind pictures her suffering the night away with a bottle of whisky in hand". Harpers & Queens says, "She is more than a great voice, she is several great voices." The influential music paper New Musical Express keeps it short: "provocative and unorthodox", while the Daily Telegraph agrees: "Her excellent voice soars and swoops with the agony and ecstasy of the delta and smoky Chicago clubs".

Genre: Pop, Soul, R&B | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Universal Island Records (6025 279 033 3 0)

2011 posthumous release, a collection of previously unreleased tracks, alternate versions of existing classics, as well as a couple of brand new Amy compositions. Following her tragic passing, some of the producers and musicians who worked closely with Amy Winehouse, among them Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, spent time listening over the many recordings that Amy had made, before, during, and after the release of 2 her albums. It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting treatment to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy the friend.

The Ronettes weren't the most commercially successful girl group, but their music was some of the most groundbreaking in the field, thanks to their association with the legendary Wall of Sound producer Phil Spector. Their biggest hit, "Be My Baby," is widely regarded as one of the crowning achievements of Spector's oeuvre, and of girl-group pop in general.

Various Artists - Blaxploitation. Soul Jazz & Funk From The Inner City (1996) [2CD] {Global}

Jazz / Funk / Soul / Fusion

This title of this generous two-CD anthology is a bit of a misnomer: While it includes several blaxploitation film themes, it is much more than just a strict genre compilation. Although there are the expected soundtrack picks like "Shaft" by Isaac Hayes and "Superfly" by Curtis Mayfield, this album also includes plenty of non-soundtrack items to create a convincing urban atmosphere. The producers wisely layer in some interesting obscurities along with the obvious choices, and this helps to keep things fresh and interesting.
