Denis Leary - Merry F#%$in' Christmas (2004)

Genre: Christmas Comedy / MP3 192 Kbps / 25.7 MB / 19:06

"Merry F#%$in' Christmas" is a mix of new, previously released, and previously unreleased material. The title track "Merry F#%$in' Christmas" is, as you can probably guess, a very happy sounding Christmas song with not-so-happy lyrics. And it works, with Leary's own angrily sarcastic-toned singing style. Both a studio and a live version are included. There are also two studio tracks from the "Lock N' Load" album.
This leaves three tracks of live stand-up material and three bizarre studio recordings. The stand-up stuff ("Fat Guy on the Plane", "Jack Goes to School", and "Dogsledding") are all great. The three other studio tracks, "WWWW", "Coffin Rap", and "The Theme from Jesus & The Gang" sound like the bizarre songs you'd hear in between tracks on "Lock 'N Load". Not surprisingly, "WWWW" was taken from the "Lock 'N Load" sessions.

My personal favorite on this album is Chipmunks Roasting On An Open Fire. Not for young children! :-)

Entertainment Weekly
It's choral-style holiday schmaltz long on the treacle.

Verve's Let's Sing a Song of Christmas is an excellent collection of Spike Jones' Christmas recordings, featuring no less than 20 tracks, including "All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)," "Jingle Bells Medley," "Nuttin' for Christmas," "The Angel in the Christmas Play," "Frosty the Snowman," "Christmas Alphabet Medley" and "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?." There have been other collections of Jones' holiday tunes, but this one is arguably the best, given its generous selection. – Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Genre: Christmas Novelty | MP3 | 128 Kbps | 50.1 MB | 55:18

If you like your Christmas tidings with a dollop of good humor, then this batch of holiday tunes is right up your alley. The lineup ranges from cute and innocuous (the Chipmunks, the Singing Dogs, and Spike Jones) to satirical (Stan Freberg and Allan Sherman) and just plain weird (Elmo and Patsy's "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" and Tom Lehrer's "A Christmas Carol"). A fun seasonal alternative to Bing Crosby.

Collections like these are always interesting. Humor is subjective so odds are what appeals to some won't appeal to others. Contributions by clever performers like Tom Lehrer and Stan Freeberg are mixed with "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" and "I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas,"creating quite a mixed bag. From the Singing Dogs to Allen Sherman is quite a leap, but fans of the "fun" side of Christmas music should be satisfied.

Les Luthiers - Sonamos Pese a Todo | 1971 | Genre: Humor (Spanish)
mp3 | CBR 192 Kbps 44100 Stereo | 41:54 | 57.5 Mb

Les Luthiers is a comedy-musical group from Argentina, very popular also in several other Spanish speaking countries such as Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela. They were formed in 1967 by Gerardo Masana, during the height of a period of very intense choral activity in Argentina's state universities. Their outstanding characteristic are the home-made musical instruments (hence the name luthiers, French for "musical instrument maker"), some of them extremely sophisticated, which they skillfully employ in their recitals to produce music and texts full of high class and refined humor.

Allan Sherman - My Son, The Nut ( 1963)
Genre: Comedy Songs | MP3 128 Kbps | 30 Mb | 34:40

Around 1963, Sherman is said to have theorized that in order to take his career to the next level, he had to get people to stop thinking of him just as a guy who did Jewish-themed material. There's barely a trace of it in his third album, which was turned into a best-seller largely on the strength of one song. Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh!, set to the tune of Dance of the Hours, was his biggest hit ever, and the number with which his name would forever be connected. The King Louie number is often cited by songwriters as the cleverest lyric on any of Sherman's records.

This album by Bill Cosby was released in 1964. It consists of 15 short routines (the album is only 30 minutes long). Cosby is always funny, but this album is a bit less funny than usual. Probably because the routines are so short, they don't have time to build.
