Masterpieces was originally released as a 3-album set in March 1978 in Japan and later that year in Australia and New Zealand, in conjuction with Dylan's 1978 Far East Tour. In 1987 a 2-CD version was released in Australia which omitted four songs ("Idiot Wind", "I Want You", "Song To Woody" and" Love Minus Zero/No Limit"). Then in 1991 a 3-CD version was released by Sony Music Australia which restored the dropped songs.

When this album came out all those years ago in Australia, American Dylan fans went nuts trying to get it, because of all the stuff on it that you couldn't get anywhere else, unless of course you owned the singles

Chilean traditional music septet Inti-Illimani have spent the last 30 years mixing together South American folk styles and a human-rights oriented political agenda. Recently, Inti Illimani has evolved to include many newer and younger band members. Likened to an “archetype,” Inti Illimani’s current manifestation is an eight piece ensemble complete with a brand new album, Pequeño Mundo. Pequeño Mundo has yet to be
released in the United States. When it becomes available, fans can expect a perfect balance between the band’s historical legacy and a continued innovativeness. Manuel Meriño, the group’s artistic director, composed one of Pequeño Mundo’s brightest moments; “Rondombe,” a percussion heavy jazz flavored instrumental. Featuring former members and long time collaborators, Pequeño Mundo also harkens back to the early beginnings of Nueva Cancion with a remake of 1965 song by Patricio Manns, “La Guitarrera Que Toca.” Jorge Coulon, the last active founding member, believes that Pequeño Mundo “takes the sound and identity of Inti Ilimani like a starting base, but has a strong presence of the points of view of the younger musicians in the group. The blend between the roots, the strong musical identity and esthetic concept of Inti Illmani and the energy and innovative power of the new generation gives Pequeño Mundo a very special “aura.” It's a very good CD to celebrate 40 years.

After my Redwing post again an album that has never been re-issued on cd, though deserved it because of sheer quality. Tom Jans died in 1984 and left 5 albums to the world of which this one is my favorite. Just like his girlfriend Valerie Carter he was a representative of the typical LA-sound of the seventies. Little Feat's Lowell George was the executive producer of the album and also played guitars on it. Tom Waits later paid homage to Jans with the Bone Machine cut "Whistle Down the Wind." Anyone who likes the songs of Jackson Browne, Gram Parsons, Warren Zevon or the Eagles should also listen to this almost forgotten gem.
