Since at least the 19th century there has been a parallel world in Russia - a place where they haven't heard of Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, Communism or Ballet. They only heard of Stalin when he tried to arrest them all. Vodka, tattoos, money, guitars, drugs, jail, and girls (including dear old mama) are the mainstays of this world - the world of the Russian criminal.
For the first time ever in Australia, VulgarGrad bring you the old songs of the Russian thieves (called blatnie pesny or blatnyak), along with punk classics of the Perestroika era and a strong dose of contemporary St. Petersburg swearing ska. The band delivers this music with style, raucous menace, stripy shirts and a smattering of grim smiles (very important). Legend of stage and screen, Jacek Koman (Children of Men, Moulin Rouge) is the genial but vengeful frontman who roars with the voice of a man betrayed, and he is backed by a gang of Australia's most illustrious ex-cons drawn from bands such as The Ennio Morricone Experience, Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen, Zulya and the Children of the Underground, Croque Monsieur, Blue Drag, and the Five Angry Men. Line-up is guitar, drums, trombone, trumpet, accordion, and watch out for the largest, most triangular instrument of them all, the mighty contrabass balalaika.
It's vodka-fuelled oompah swing ska punk - gulag-style.

Коллеги, а кто слабал эту Мурку? В моей коллекции её не было. Вот за неё Hkus'у - спасибо :)
Это дебютный альбом коллектива, запись состоялась на концерте, который прошел 25 апреля 2005 года.
На самом деле, солист коллектива, Яцек Коман, известный австралийский актер кино («Мулен Руж», «Автралия» и многие другие) родился в Польше, по всей вероятности, отсюда и знание русского языка и русского фольклора. На первый взгляд довольно оригинальный и одновременно несовместимый подбор песен – Высоцкий, Цой, Чистяков, Шнур (простите, Сергей Шнуров), народные «Мурка» и «Ванинский порт». Хотя, с другой стороны, все закономерно – из русской уличной песни все они и вышли, как ни крути, эти песни уже народные.
А вообще сочетание достаточно оригинальное – поляк с австралийским диксилендом (да-да, именно так и написано в некоторых релизах выпускающей компании) играет и поет русский блат. Однозначное влияние на творчество группы «VulgarGrad» оказали такие коллективы, как «Братья Жемчужные», «Ленинград» и исполнители Высоцкий, Северный, Рубашкин («Мурка» в этой версии явно «снята» у Бориса Семеновича), Сергей Шнуров, Алеша Авдеев.
Многие брались перепевать и переигрывать старую добрую русскую уличную песенную классику (во, какая формулировочка): «Ля минор», «Биг Блюз ривайл», Юрий Куплетный…. Делается это с живыми аранжировками, с живыми музыкантами. Вот и группа «VulgarGrad» решила попробовать свои силы в этом, учитывая, что альбом записан в Австралии, то остается вспомнить слова (несколько измененные слова) классика:
Проникновенье наше по планете
Особенно заметно вдалеке,
В канберрском, вы представьте, туалете,
Есть надписи на русском языке.
Конечно, это шутка, учитывая, что группа на останавливается на достигнутом (недавно вышел еще один альбом коллектива), то остается пожелать музыкантам большой удачи. Кто-то может сказать, что это очередная перепевка и коммерческий некий проект, но… Сделано это осознанно, да еще и с живыми коллективом, явно профессионалами, да и коммерческой выгоды, как мне кажется, петь русский блат в Австралии, нет никакой. Для коллекционеров и любителей жанра, данный диск, несомненно, находка, к сожалению, он большая редкость.
