Johnny Cash - The Fabulous Johnny Cash (1959)
Country | FLAC IMG + CUE | VINYL | 140 MB | SCANS | RS
Label: Columbia Records | Catalog: CS 8122 (original pressing)

The Fabulous Johnny Cash is the first album by country singer Johnny Cash recorded for Columbia Records after his departure from Sun Records in Memphis Tennessee. These 12 tracks captured Cash during a particularly vital period of his long, illustrious career. Demonstrating an energy and down-home diversity that would later become even more fully realized, Cash herein moves deftly from introspective ballads (his original "Run Softly, Blue River") and railroad songs ("One More Ride") to cowboy ballads (his sardonic original, "Don't Take Your Guns to Town") and stoic laments like "I Still Miss Someone." In the process, he refines a vivid musical persona that more or less became synonymous with country music in the 1960s.

Willie Nelson - City Of New Orleans
Country | MP3 320 CBR | 85 MB | 1984

The Steve Goodman-penned title cut of City of New Orleans was Nelson's umpteenth number one hit;
other highlights include his renditions of "Please Come to Boston" and "Wind Beneath My Wings."

Kris Kristofferson - Closer To The Bone
Country | MP3 V2 VBR 182 kbps | 42 MB | 2009

On Closer to the Bone, Kris Kristofferson avoids the production mishaps of 2006's This Old Road (the whole album sounded deliberately out of tune), though he works with the same team: producer Don Was (who also played bass), drummer Jim Keltner, Rami Jaffee on keyboards, and guitarist Stephen Bruton, who passed away shortly after finishing this album — it is dedicated to his memory. Closer to the Bone's 11 songs are simply jaw-dropping for the most part: some pay tribute to friends; others give props to loss, grief, pleasure, and pain; and they all offer gratitude for the experiences. The sound of the record is close, intimate, and immediate but less shambolic than This Old Road — but it doesn't sound falsely polished. It's an exceptionally intimate recording filled with songs that are always direct and sometimes uncomfortable. The melodies are as simple and classic as they've always been, but lyrically, the man is on a tear. On the opening title track, Kristofferson brings back an old Waylon Jennings-styled gospel shuffle, marked by Keltner's kick drum and brushed snare and illustrated by acoustic guitars, mandolin, and a harmonica. He sings about the experience of life while moving through one, and about how it's often the latter years that provide the richest experiences. And there's another voice that kicks in during the refrain: "Coming from the heartbeat/Nothing but the truth now/Everything is sweeter/Closer to the bone...." with backing vocals by Bruton. These two underscore in every line that, as one comes closer to whatever the eternal is, it's all encapsulated in today, and all experiences have their own beauty (and they do it without a hint of schmaltz or melancholy)

mp3 320kbps | 98MB
Neo-Traditionalist Country, Honky Tonk, Contemporary Country

If ever we needed a record of country music classics it's now, but to have them delivered by one of the greatest talents the music ever produced -- a singer still very much in her prime -- is a gift beyond measure. <AMG>

Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen - Worst Case Scenario
Country | MP3 256 kbps | 90 MB | 1994

Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen were equally adept at stripped-down basic rock & roll, R&B, and gritty country-rock. Commander Cody's country-rock rocked harder than the Eagles or Poco -- essentially, the group was a bar band. Much like English pub rock bands like Brinsley Schwarz and Ducks Deluxe, Commander Cody resisted the overblown and bombastic trends of early-'70s rock, preferring a basic, no-frills approach. Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen never had the impact of the British pub rockers, yet their straightforward energy gave their records a distinguishing drive; they could play country, Western swing, rockabilly, and R&B, and it all sounded convincing.

Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen - Too Much Fun
Country | MP3 VBR 241 kbps | 81 MB | 1990

Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen were a long-haired, flannel-wearing, good-time party band that got started in the late '60s. What set them apart from the majority of other bands at the time was they had more in common with old Bob Wills records than anything Jimi Hendrix ever recorded. They were a damn good bar band and one of the few from that era who could play at both political rallies and the honky tonk down the street. These 15 tunes include cover versions of Western swing classics like "Hot Rod Lincoln," "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke (That Cigarette)," and "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar," along with countryfied originals that hippies loved like "Stems and Seeds." The music Commander Cody and his boys recorded during the hippie era remains timeless, unlike, say, the first Country Joe & the Fish record.

Commander Cody - Live At Gilley's
Country | MP3 256 kbps | 101 MB | 2000

In the early 80s, Commander Cody was still rockin & boogie'n with the best of 'em, and his back up band was Bill Kirchen's band, the Moonlighters...not like the original line up, but kirchen is in it! This album was Recorded in the Lone Star State, Live At Gilley's is a pretty good album...I wouldn't go as far to say "not as good as the old stuff" because it is, just in a different way...it's a bit of a different sound, but things change, and that's ultimately a good thing. And I mean, c'mon, if this album is good for nothing else, it's good for that GREAT live version of "TWO TRIPPLE CHEESE, SIDE ORDER FRIES!" To address the othe reviewer who said "Who knows who the line up is" Well, it was George Frayne (Commander) on piano/vocals, Pete Siegel on Steel Guitar, Steve Mckay on Sax, and Bill Kirchen on lead guitar...Great album, Great Music by AWESOME musicians, and it's presented very nicely, nice cover art, decent liner notes, and a few old pictures taken out of the archives. This album is definantly worth buying.

Charley Pride - Tribute To Jim Reeves [Australian Version]
Country | MP3 320 CBR | 125 MB | 2001

This is one of the best albums of tribute that has been published. Willie Nelson's tribute to Lefty Frizzell and of course, Merle Haggard, who can sing just about anyone are about the only ones that compare. Most tribute albums are by various artists and you may hit 50% if you are fortunate as to who can really sing the songs. This album is a must for all Jim Reeves and Charley Pride fans. The velvety voice of Charley Pride not only performs with his usual excellence but brings back the memories of the Gentlemen Jim Reeves in a way that only Charley can produce. I higly recommend. Do not let this one slip out of your hands!!!! Great job, Mr. Pride of Country Music!!

Ultimately, King's Record Shop is Rosanne Cash's classic, a work that transcends production and songwriting styles and the pop and country music of the time. <AMG album pick>

Bobby Bare - The Essential Bobby Bare
Country | MP3 192 kbps | 99 MB | 1997

Like all the other volumes of RCA's Essential series, The Essential Bobby Bare contains a cross-section of Bare's hits, lesser-known singles, rarities and album tracks. Though it is a useful and entertaining collection, Razor & Tie's compilation remains a more definitive retrospective.
