La Nef - Perceval. La quête du Graal - vol. 2
EAC FLAC cue+scans (300 MB) | LOG | Accuraterip
Dorian DOR-90294 (2000) | medieval / Celtic

As in its previous productions, La Nef has created its own personal version of the myth of the Grail, a sort of original, timeless "collage,'' incorporating elements from medieval plays, Baroque Opera and more contemporary musical practice.
The second part of the diptych sets the story of Perceval in strange, unreal places, where he meets enigmatic characters such as the Fisher King, the Maiden and her Dead Love, the Hideous Damsel, and the Hermit, who guide him on his quest. In contrast to volumen 1, where the actions were more down-to-earth in nature, the scenes of volume 2 seem blurred, imprecise, and usntable. Perceval experiences short-lived events that melt away almost as soon as they appear. The musical treatment is different from that in volume 1, with unusual melodic modes, dissonant harmonies and muted tone colors.

Enya (later re-released as The Celts) is the first album by Irish singer Enya, released in 1987 (see 1987 in music). Enya's first full-album recording, Enya / The Celts features music written and recorded for the soundtrack of the 1986 documentary television series, The Celts.Recorded in 1986, it was not released until 1987 when the series was first broadcast. The album was first released in the UK by the BBC on their own label, and later issued in North America by Atlantic Records. In 1992, Warner Music reissued a remixed and slightly revised version of the album as The Celts. The original version Enya was no longer manufactured. The album contains only a portion of the music Enya composed for the TV series. In 1992, coinciding with the reissue of the album, a previously unreleased track from these sessions, "Eclipse" was released as a b-side on the CD-single for "the Celts". In 2005, another previously unreleased track from the same sessions, a "Spaghetti Western Theme" done in the style of Hugo Montenegro, was released on the CD-single for "Amarantine", in memory of one of the producers of the TV series......

The album follows the path of Radio Rebelde, but is also linked with the old sonorities and musical structures (the ballad). The Ramblers’ music by now had an original personality with hundreds of influences (folk, punk, rock steady, reggae-dub, Latin, African, Balkan and so on…) mixed in a unique blend. Within a few days ¡Viva la Vida, Muera la Muerte! entered the TOP TEN of the Italian album chart!

Dorian DOR-90271 (1998) | medieval / Celtic

The present program is constructed entirely by La Nef, following the tweflth century story of Perceval and the Grail by Chrétien de Troyes. The original texts were not set to music (or do not survive with music), and so the music has been drawn from a variety of sources, including some traditional Celtic tunes. Unfortunately, the notes for the recording do not detail the individual sources with any precision.
The performance style itself is dramatic, as is usual for La Nef, but besides some of the more standard medieval-style interpretations, there is a Baroque operatic coloring to many sections. It is a very original production. -- medieval.org

The Chieftains - The Celtic Harp: A Tribute to Edward Bunting with the Belfast Harp Orchestra
1993 | Mp3 192 Kbps | 74 Mb
Genere: Celtic/Folk/World/Reggae/Celtic Folk

This excellent CD contains twelve traditional Irish tunes that were recorded by the incomparable Chieftains, in conjunction with the Belfast Harp Orchestra. The sounds produced are soothing, and quite enjoyable to listen to. In fact, this album was actually awarded the Best Traditional Folk Album award at the 1994 Grammies! So, if you like Irish harp music, or traditional Irish tunes, then you will love this album. My family and I highly recommend this CD to you.

The Chieftains - Reel Music
1991 | Mp3 VBR 192-320 Kbps | 98 Mb
Genere: Celtic/Folk/World/Reggae/Celtic Folk

Reel Music holds a place of honour in my collection, as it was the first Irish/Chieftains CD that I bought. I had been eagerly searching for the score to TNT's "Treasure Island," and was ecstatic when I found this CD. The original release date was 1991 and this album has since been reissued as "Film Cuts," which is still in print in the United States. However, Reel Music boasts additional tracks from the films "Three Wishes for Jamie," "Tristan and Isolde," and "The Year of the French" that were deleted from the reissue. In all, this is an excellent sampler of various musical styles and traditional Irish instruments such as the Irish harp, tin whistle, bodhrán, uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), and the tiompán. The music ranges from wistful to suspenseful to exuberant. If you like this CD, I would also recommend "The Ballad of the Irish Horse," which is a Chieftains score to a National Geographic documentary of the same name. "Reel Music" is one CD you won't want to miss!

Hevia - Obsession
2007 | Mp3 320 kbps | 128 Mb
Genere: Celtic/Celtic Fusion

I've been a big fan of José Ángel Hevia ever since I first heard his debut album, "Tierra de Nadie", almost eight years ago. His music blends elements of his native Asturias, in northern Spain, with other forms of Celtic music, along with Spanish and Arabic motifs, and finally, electronic strains. He is a master of the acoustic Asturian bagpipes, along with a form of Midi pipes he invented himself, and a type of low whistle. The elaborate vocal harmonies, when they appear, are always very exotic and, at the same time, ancient-feeling, making the hair stand up on my arms as I'm swept away by the timelessness of it all. Have you ever stood in a medieval castle, with the odd sense that you could slip through a crack in the coils of time and find yourself stranded in the twelfth century? That's the feeling I get uniquely from listening to Hevia, and no one else, due to his mixture of ultra-modern and ultra-ancient. The Celts are a truly ancient people, having inhabited Europe for over two thousand years, with a sense of history and legend second to none, and equaled by few.

Get ready for the ride of your life through Irish folk-rock styles. The opening track of the group's debut album, with its pipes, button accordion, and percussion, could pass for any Chieftains record, but then the electricity kicks in on "Hall of Mirrors," and the rest is melodic rock, not so much folk-rock as folkish rock, recalling early Genesis.

A great album with also great sonics. If you have only small interests in irish folk and celtic rock this, besides "The Book Of Invasions" and "The Tain", shouldn't be missed! IMO all masterpieces of this genre.

The sons of fiddler Ted Furey from Ireland, Finbar and Eddie rose to fame in the '60s. Finbar is a flamboyant and forceful uillean piper who won his first all-Ireland championship at the age of 15, while Eddie is a singer and guitarist. They have been members of the Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur, but their most charming recordings are the ones they did as a duo. Steve Winick AMG

This is the second disc in the collection by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, and both are as good as each other. Judging by the average 4 stars for the previous disc, you can see why I'm giving this a 5 star! (In addition to this, while the war was not universally popular, these soldiers are only doing their job and I feel by buying this disc you can send them your support!)
Back to the review, this collection is different from any other which I have heard in the past. I can almost feel the emotion of the band during the recording! Very good collection.
