Patricia A. Emison, Creating the "Divine" Artist: From Dante to Michelangelo
Brill Academic Publishers | ISBN:9004137092 | 2004 | PDF | 2 MB | 404 pages

Turning a skeptical eye on the idea that Renaissance artists were widely believed to be as utterly admirable as Vasari claimed, this book re-opens the question of why artists were praised and by whom, and specifically why the language of divinity was invoked, a practice the ancients did not license. The epithet ''divino'' is examined in the context of claims to liberal arts status and to analogy with poets, musicians, and other ''uomini famossi.''

This is a beautiful book illustrating what great Concept Design is all about, and as a designer, it's good to have examples of such stellar work; It gives us something to emulate (if we work REALLY hard). Excellent book, though i'd have liked more process drawings, and not only the stunningly finished work.

By Christopher Innes, "Designing Modern America: Broadway to Main Street"
Yale University Press | ISBN:0300108044 | 2005 | 320 pages | PDF | 1.5 MB

Illustrated with more than 130 photographs, this book tells the engrossing story of Urban and Bel Geddes. Christopher Innes shows how these two men with a background in theater lent dramatic flair to everything they designed and how this theatricality gave the distinctive modernity they created such wide appeal. If the American lifestyle has been much imitated across the globe over the past fifty years, says Innes, it is due in large measure to the designs of Urban and Bel Geddes. Together they were responsible for creating what has been called the “Golden Age” of American culture.

Art Deco Stained Glass Designs

Art Deco Stained Glass Designs by Ed Sibbett
Dover Publications | ISBN:0486235505 | 1977 | PDF | 64 pages | 2RS Parts : 17+24 Mb

The geometric orientation of Art Deco and its brilliant hard colors make this style perfect for the medium of stained glass. This collection contains 91 newly rendered, yet authentic, Art Deco patterns, which constitute a rich source of ideas for stained glass workers. The designs represent the major Art Deco motifs and sub-styles - abstract patterns in bold straight-line and curved motifs; representations of men and women in characteristic 1920's garb; geometrically stylized birds, trees and animals; and the flowing forms of flowers and plants that are a holdover from the Art Nouveau period.
