Ever since his breakthrough in the early 1970s-as a founding member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and as a drummer/leader whose recordings and powerful, complex style of play exerted a strong influence on the course of jazz and jazz-fusion. This salute to Bill Evans, one of Elias' favorite piano players, explores a number of songs he recorded, including both standards and originals. Evans' bassist from his final trio, Marc Johnson, is not only a long-time collaborator with Elias but also her husband; drummer Joey Baron rounds out the band. While Elias is influenced by Evans' playing style, his arrangements are only a launching pad for her approach to each tune; never does she sound like an obvious Evans clone. She has also built confidence in her singing over time; always gifted with a tender, sensuous voice, Elias glides gently over Johnson's walking introduction to "A Sleepin' Bee" and offers an equally delicate "Walt for Debby." She wrote words to Evans' previously unknown "Here Is Something for You".

Plastic Beach is the band's third studio album. It will be released on 8 March 2022 in the United Kingdom and 9 March 2022 in the United States. Albarn said "I'm making this one the most pop record I've ever made in many ways, but with all my experience to try and at least present something that has got depth." The album will feature guest performances by Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, Mos Def, Bobby Womack, Gruff Rhys, Mark E. Smith, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, Kano, Bashy, De La Soul, Little Dragon, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, sinfonia ViVA, and The Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental Arabic Music.

Pianist Eliane Elias goes from bop and Bach to bossa nova just as easily as she sings in English and Portuguese. This CD is the sequel to her 2004 recording, Dreamer, and it features bassist Marc Johnson, guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves, flutist Dave Valentin, and trumpeter Randy Brecker. The 13 selections are techno-textured tunes, including the hip and hypnotic "Running" -- which was recently featured on the television show Brothers and Sisters -- the upbeat, Top 40-type number, "We’re So Good," and the flamenco-flavored "Slide Show." The Santana/Tito Puente Latin masterpiece, "Oye Como Va," features her sly, new lyrics and her zesty, Fender Rhodes solo. Bob Marley's "Jammin'" is a resyncopated, electro-samba, and Beck's "Tropicalia" swings with Rio-born, soft syncopations.

Belinda Carlisle is a founding member of 80's all-girl new wave/surf rock band The Go-Go's. In 1996 (97 in the US) Carlisle released "A Woman and a Man" which produced two top ten hits in the UK, "In Too Deep" and "Always Breaking My Heart", a song written for her by Per Gessle, co-founder of Roxette. The album also spawned two more smaller hits in UK: "Love in the Key of C", and "California".

The highly photogenic Viktoria Tolstoy is in fact not just 'another pretty face', but actually a brilliant and sophisticated vocalist in the borderland between genuine jazz and smooth pop. The arrangements with the acoustic piano as the dominating instrument is certainly giving the proceedings a strong jazz flavour. And not smooth jazz rather the cool Scandinavian touch is prevailing. The material ranks from contemporary Swedish composers to rather unknown tunes by the likes of Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Prince, Stevie Wonder. (And yes, Viktoria is a direct descendant of the illustrious Russian novelist and philosopher Leo T.).
