Great remix album on Norway/Sami vocal acrobat Mari Boine. Her songs are remixed by Jah Wobble, Bill Laswell, Nils Petter Molvær, ... - and they sound quite different to the original versions: more trance, chillout, world dub, ambient.

Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth (1990)
EAC | FLAC (no cue, no log) 224 MB | mp3 vbr (V0) 79 MB | Cover | 21 Tr. | 47:39
Genre: Post-Punk/Indie | Label: (c) 1980/1990 Rough Trade Records

'Colossal Youth' was a very influential album by Cardiff post-punk band YMG, originally released in February 1980. The trio was formed in 1978, their music was constructed around the powerful and minimal instrumentation of brothers Philip and Stuart Moxham along with the vocals of Alison Statton. Stuart Moxham wrote the majority of the band's songs, and his writing was often deceptively simple-seeming, giving the YMG's classic work a uniquely fragile yet powerful quality. Centered around a weird mix of Philip's steel-hawser bass, Stuart's punchy rhythm guitar (played on a mapleglo Rickenbacker 425) and haunting, rhythmic Galanti electric organ lines, with Statton's vocals tentatively suspended in the space between them, their sound was unlike anything anyone had heard before. This release includes the 'Testcard EP' (tr.16-21), originally released in March 1981.

For anyone truly interested in reggae, Jacob Miller is one of those voices, you never forget once you've heard him. The man who invented the Bionic Skank, exemplifies raw lyrical and musical strength. This album is good for beginners into Jacob's music and style, and for those who are looking to venture into a greater area of Reggae. Standout tracks: Healing of the Nation, Standing Firm (based on 'Take 5' riddim), Tenement Yard, ... - Jacob 'Killa' Miller was one of the greatest singers and performers in Reggae music in the late seventies.

Florian Fricke/Popol Vuh, the great builder of soundscapes and one of the german electronic pioneers, worked together with director Werner Herzog from an early stage (1972). His compositions underlined the intentions of the filmmaker and gave Herzog's images a new dimension. They soon became 'Soul Brothers', striving for the same goals, whereas Herzog's other creative collaboration (with actor Klaus Kinski) was a bit more complicated...

Steve Kuhn Trio - Mostly Coltrane (2009)
EAC | FLAC (no cue, no log) 403 MB | mp3 vbr (V0) 130 MB | Cover | 13 Tr. | 1:16:43
Genre: Jazz | Full Scans (30 MB) | Label: (c) 2009 ECM Records

A celebration of the magisterial music of John Coltrane. In 1960 Steve Kuhn was the original pianist in John Coltrane's quartet, preceding McCoy Tyner. The album is an homage to Coltrane's music and influence, focussing on music either written by him or strongly associated with him. Particularly fascinating is the scope of material selected, which not only includes tunes Kuhn once played with Coltrane - "Central Park West", "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes", "I Want To Talk About You" - but goes right through Coltrane's life, including pieces from the very final months, such as "Configuration" and "Jimmy's Mode"... These tremendous group performances, with Kuhn joined by Joe Lovano, a musician many critics believe to be the world's premier tenor player right now, effectively retrace Coltrane's last decade.

Syd Barrett was the British Psychedelic master credited with creating Pink Floyd in the late 1960s. He was kicked out of Floyd in 1968 because of his drug-addled space-cadet lifestyle. 'Barrett' was his second solo album with lots of lovely acoustic songs. This is the 1993 version incl. 7 bonus tracks, produced by Dave Gilmour and recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

Anne Clark - Changing Places (1983)

Genre: New Wave/Synth Pop | Full Scans (21 MB) | (c) 1983 Red Flame Ltd./Virgin - (p) 1991 Beehive

An essential record of the early 80s is Anne Clark's 'Changing Places' LP, which features the successful single 'Sleeper in Metropolis' . The record's A-side [trax 1-6] was recorded and composed by David Harrow based on synths and sequencers, while the second side [trax 7-11], which was written and performed by Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column, based more on guitars with echo sounds, giving each side a distinctively different tone. Anne Clark is an UK-based experimental musician and poet, who began her career in 1982 and still records to this day. Her work combines spoken word, experimental music, and minimal synth electronics. Great stuff.
