Jimi Hendrix – Axis Outtakes (1975)
EAC Rip | Flac Image + Cue + Log | Covers & Booklet scans included | 565 Mb
Rock, Rock-Blues | 2 Cd | Label Purple Haze Records Ltd. 1975 (HAZE 002)

The tracks on this double Cd represent the surviving Outtakes and alternate mixes from the recordings, which from the second “Jimi Hendrix Experience album “Axis Bold As Love”. After the explosive debut, “Are you Experienced”, Axis offered a more melodic, lyrical countpoint and demonstrated quite clearly that Jimi Hendrix was more musician than wild man.

This is a very well chosen set for a single disc Muddy comp. Kudos to the compilers for including a couple pre-Chess cuts as well as a track from his highly underrated recordings on the Blue Sky label.

EAC rip | Flac image + Cue + Log │ Covers + Booklet 16 pages scans Hq included | 220 Mb
Blues │ Sony Music 2003 | Columbia Legacy 512574.2

Eddie James "Son" House is one of the founding fathers of the blues, and by extension, American music. And yet he does not receive the credit due him nor the accolades such that Robert Johnson does. Son House was actually one of the people who played with, and inspired, Robert Johnson. In fact, he was reported to have been Johnson's favorite mentor.

Bob Dylan – The Genuine Basement Tapes Vol. 5 (1967) (Bootleg)

This is my favorite of the five volumes, mainly because everyone seems to be having so much fun.

Bob Dylan – The Genuine Basement Tapes Vol. 4 (1967) (Bootleg)
EAC Rip | Flac Image + Cue + Log | Covers included | 287 Mb
Rock, Folk | Label Bootleg Wild Wolf 6704

Starting with volume four, the rest of the unreleased basement tapes (the Garth Hudson archives) began to go public. What we have here are some of the most entertaining songs in the whole collection.

Bob Dylan – The Genuine Basement Tapes Vol. 3 (1967) (Bootleg)
EAC Rip | Flac Image + Cue + Log | Covers included | 334 Mb
Rock, Folk | Label Bootleg Wild Wolf 6703

Volume three features more of the "original" songs, but with a few extra newly discovered songs thrown in for good measure. Despite the wealth of wonderful material, this disc is the one I like the least, primarily because of the poor sound. Whether by design or accident, the entire disc is in mono and features a lot of hiss at times.

Bob Dylan – The Genuine Basement Tapes Vol. 2 (1967) (Bootleg)
EAC Rip | Flac Image + Cue + Log | Covers included | 266 Mb
Rock, Folk | Label Bootleg Wild Wolf 6702

Volume two consists mostly of those songs available in 1967 and subsequently released on the official Basement Tapes album (hereafter called OA), but many of these versions have never been heard before by the general public, even though they have been known of for years. This is the core of the Basement Tapes. The nice thing about this disc is that is tends to present the multiple takes more or less in order, so that for the first time we actually have both versions of Quinn the Eskimo and all three takes of Open the Door Homer on one disc. Also, the multiple versions present further evidence that these songs were probably intended to be released as part of an album at one time or another.

Bob Dylan – The Genuine Basement Tapes Vol. 1 (1967) (Bootleg)
EAC Rip | Flac Image + Cue + Log | Covers included | 292 Mb
Rock, Folk | Label Bootleg Wild Wolf 6701

In 1975 Columbia released its official version of The BasementTapes, and at the time it was thought that all of the songs from that session were in circulation. However, the inclusion of Going To Acapulco, a previously unknown recording, raised the suspicion that there might have been many more songs as yet uncovered.

Martin Scorsese presents The Blues: Jimi Hendrix (2003)
EAC rip | Flac image + Cue + Log │ Covers + Booklet 16 pages scans Hq included | 492 Mb
Rock, Blues │ Experience Hendrix - MCA Records 2003 | Code B000069802

Just got this...the two previously unreleased tracks on this cd are quite nice. i'm surprised that there's material of this quality left unreleased. "blue window" is an extended original blues with nice organ and horns, both of which were rare in Hendrix recordings. it's a long jam that vacillates between sounding impromptu and surprisingly well arranged...

Martin Scorsese presents The Blues: Bessie Smith (2003)
EAC rip | Flac image + Cue + Log │ Covers + Booklet 8 pages scans Hq included | 149 Mb
Blues │ Sony Music 2003 | Columbia Legacy 512572.2

It is nice that the blues and jazz giants of the past occasionally recieve their due. This lovely compilation, richly illustrated and quite informative (particularly for the beginners), probably helped to spread the word around and, from what I can judge, the selection of songs is excellent.
Jazz fans will perhaps find particularly interesting Bessie's 1925 performances with Louis Armstrong on cornet , Charlie Green on trombone and Fred Longshaw on the piano ("I Ain't Goin' To Play No Second Fiddle" and "Careless Love"), while on "St. Louis Blues" Bessie and Satchmo are joined only by Longshaw on organ.

Barry White – All-Time Greatests Hits (1994)
EAC Rip | Flac (20 tracks) + Cue + M3u + Log | Covers scans included | 511 Mb
Funk, R & Blues | Label: Mercury - Polygram Records (522-4359-2), released 1994

Boasting a full 20 tracks from White's heyday of 1973-1978, more than half of which made the R&B Top Ten, All-Time Greatest Hits is easily the most generous single-disc White collection on the market. It includes the edited single versions, not the full-length album tracks, which actually makes for a more digestible introduction to White's achievements.
