M. H. Salmon, J. Earman, C. Glymour, J. Lennox (editors): "Introduction to the Philosophy of Science"
Hackett Pub Co Inc | English | March 1999 | ISBN: 0872204502 | 466 pages | PDF | 41 MB

Prepared by nine distinguished philosophers and historians of science, this thoughtful reader represents a co-operative effort to provide an introduction to the philosophy of science focused on cultivating an understanding of both the workings of science and its historical and social context. Nonequilibrium Nondissipative Thermodynamics - With Application to Low-Pressure Diamond Synthesis

Ji-Tao Wang: "Nonequilibrium Nondissipative Thermodynamics - With Application to Low-Pressure Diamond Synthesis"
Springer | English | April 29 2002 | ISBN: 354042802X | 272 pages | PDF | 21 MB

This book provides a framework for analysing complex systems for which classical thermodynamics is often not applicable. Since the success of the activated process in 1970, diamond growth with simultaneous graphite etching under low pressure has often been regarded as a violation of the second law of thermodynamics. A series of nonequilibrium phase diagrams, which agree excellently with the activated diamond experiments, have been calculated by the author and his coworkers on the basis of reaction coupling. The book goes on to demonstrate how these lead to a complete new systematization of modern thermodynamics.
Mathematical Theory of Nonequilibrium Steady States - On the Frontier of Probability and Dynamical Systems

Da-Quan Jiang, Min Qian, & Ming-Ping Qian: "Mathematical Theory of Nonequilibrium Steady States - On the Frontier of Probability and Dynamical Systems"
Springer-Verlag | English | Feb 12 2004 | ISBN: 3540206116 | 290 pages | PDF | 3 MB

This volume provides a systematic mathematical exposition of the conceptual problems of nonequilibrium statistical physics, such as entropy production, irreversibility, and ordered phenomena. Markov chains, diffusion processes, and hyperbolic dynamical systems are used as mathematical models of physical systems. A measure-theoretic definition of entropy production rate and its formulae in various cases are given. It vanishes if and only if the stationary system is reversible and in equilibrium. Moreover, in the cases of Markov chains and diffusion processes on manifolds, it can be expressed in terms of circulations on directed cycles. Regarding entropy production fluctuations, the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation theorem is rigorously proved.

I.L. Kantor & A.S. Solodovnikov "Hypercomplex Numbers - An Elementary Introduction to Algebras"
Springer-Verlag | English | May 1, 2022 | ISBN: 0387969802 | 179 pages | PDF | 8 MB

The problem of finding all hypercomplex number system remains unsolved. The authors consider some variants of this problem. They begin with examples including the quaternions and Cayley numbers; the second (auxiliary) part is an elementary exposition of linear algebra; the third part explains the unique role of quaternions, complex- and Cayley numbers in the problem. Neither index nor bibliography.

Oxford University Press | English | Dec 31 2004 | ISBN: 0198505353 | 678 pages | PDF | 62 MB

This two-volume work provides an overview of this important era of mathematical research through a carefully chosen selection of articles. They provide an insight into the foundations of each of the main branches of mathematics--algebra, geometry, number theory, analysis, logic and set theory--with narratives to show how they are linked.

In the Beginning Was Information - A Scientist Explains the Incredible Design in Nature

Werner Gitt "In the Beginning Was Information - A Scientist Explains the Incredible Design in Nature"
Master Books | English | Feb 15 2006 | ISBN: 0890514615 | 260 pages | PDF | 22 MB

All living organisms require information to function. If we want to make meaningful and useful statements about the origin of life, then we first have to explain what information is and how it came about. The author of this book uses many ilustrative and striking examples to clarify this question.

Knowledge of Meaning - An Introduction to Semantic Theory

Richard Larson & Gabriel Segal "Knowledge of Meaning - An Introduction to Semantic Theory"
The MIT Press | English | Sep 23 1995 | ISBN: 0262621002 | 659 pages | PDF | 36 MB

Current textbooks in formal semantics are all versions of, or introductions to, the same paradigm in semantic theory: Montague Grammar. Knowledge of Meaning is based on different assumptions and a different history. It provides the only introduction to truth- theoretic semantics for natural languages, fully integrating semantic theory into the modern Chomskyan program in linguistic theory and connecting linguistic semantics to research elsewhere in cognitive psychology and philosophy. As such, it better fits into a modern graduate or undergraduate program in linguistics, cognitive science, or philosophy.
