Lonnie Shields - Portrait (2000)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Image) + CUE + LOG | 357 MB | + Covers
Genre: Blues/Contemporary | Label: Rooster Blues/2000 | Catalog Number: 2626 | Original Release Date: 1992 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

After Lonnie played the King Biscuit Blues Festival in his home town of Helena,
Arkansas in 1986, he was asked to record a single for the Rooster Blues label. This in turn led to his first album for Rooster Blues, Portrait, released in 1993."Lonnie Shields' debut album, Portrait, introduced an accomplished, talented bluesman, one that was
equally capable of playing guitar with abandon and delivering a song with soul. Unlike many of his peers, Lonnie doesn't oversell a song, he caresses it with his voice, knowing when to bring it all back home. Supported by guitarist Big Jack Johnson, keyboardist Frank Frost and drummer Sam Carr, he's able to pull off contemporary blues, laidback soul and funky grooves, resulting in a truly impressive and detailed Portrait. Barrelhouse Chuck - Slowdown Sundown (2006)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Image) + CUE + LOG | 338 MB | + Covers
Genre: Blues/Chicago Blues | Label: Viola | Catalog Number: VR-05236 | Release Date: Aug 8, 2021 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

With the recent loss of Detroit Jr. it becomes more acutely aware than ever that the piano blues is a dying art form. There's only a handful of old timers keeping the tradition alive such as Pinetop Perkins, Big Joe Duskin, Henry Gray and Ernest Lane. Barrelhouse Chuck represents one of the few younger generation pianists (he's 48) and has been well schooled in the art as he demonstrates on the fabulous "Slowdown Sundown."
Chuck has paid his dues the time honored way by apprenticing with piano masters such as Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Lafayette Leake and Little Brother Montgomery. Chuck spent 10 years studying with Sunnyland who he calls "the great-granddaddy of all the blues piano players." He also formed a special bond with piano legend Little Brother Montgomery. He honed his craft working and recording with a who's who of Chicago legends like Louis Myers, Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Dawkins, Billy Boy Arnold, Detroit Jr. and Big Smokey Smothers and many, many others. Along the way Chuck has released several fine recordings under his own name such as 1999's fine "Salute To Sunnyland Slim" and 2002's strong "Prescription For The Blues." "Slowdown Sundown", on his own Viola label, finds Chuck in peak form playing both solo and with an all-star cast of Chicago bluesmen.....

Travie McCoy - Lazarus (2010)
Unknown Rip | FLAC (Tracks) + CUE, NO LOG | 278 MB | + Covers
Genre: Rap/Pop/Rock/AlternativeRap/IndieRock | Label: Fueled by Ramen Records | Catalog Number: 7567894782 | Release Date: Jun 8, 2022 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

His first official solo album away from Gym Class Heroes (though he has released some mixtapes), Travie McCoy's Lazarus finds the band's charismatic frontman as upbeat as ever on his summery debut. Right from the get-go the album opener, “Dr. Feelgood,” establishes the album as a top-down, good-time summer album, with a funky uptempo beat and a hook by none other than Cee-Lo Green, whose falsetto adds a nice touch of soul to the track. Further in, “Billionaire” has guest Bruno Mars and McCoy channeling Sublime on the laid-back reggae-inflected jam. The real highlight of the album comes from “Akidagain,” where McCoy does his take on Ahmad’s “Back in the Day,” reminiscing about being a kid with a flow that’s looser and more natural than anywhere else on the album. Even though every track on the album isn’t a keeper, like the Auto-Tuned “Superbad” or the Black Eyed Peas-style “We’ll Be Alright” (which borrows the hook from Supergrass' “Alright”), it has some solid additions to any summer playlist and will definitely please fans of Gym Class Heroes.

Aloe Blacc - Good Things (2010)
Unknown Rip | FLAC (Tracks) + CUE, NO LOG | 296 MB | + Covers
Genre: R&B/Rap/Soul/Neo-Soul | Label: Stones Throw | Catalog Number: VVNL21742 | Release Date: Sep 28, 2021 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

All the promise of his debut comes true on Aloe Blacc’s sophomore release, Good Things, a vintage sound meets modern problems release with a way too modest title. Right from the opening “I Need a Dollar” -- which could be passed off as unreleased Bill Withers, no problem -- the album offers grand things, providing listeners with that solid, but not polarizing, style of social commentary Withers perfected. On the following cut, positivity is pushed (“Something special happened today/I got green lights all the way”) in a manner that’s far from sugary, but this singer who offers such warmth and humility on his smooth soul tracks is well aware of sin, and can get slinky in a Al Green style when warning against loose women on “Hey Brother.” An even better example of this is his cover of the Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale,” which becomes much more than a clever choice, thanks to a convincing performance that suggests he’s been there. The organic production, real horns and all, is left up entirely to the Truth & Soul Productions crew (Jeff Dynamite and Leon Michels) but Blacc’s delivery is less traditional with phrasing and some slang left over from when he was a 24-7 rapper. Anyone with a taste for neo-soul should try Good Things unique flavor. It comes on familiar and comfortable and becomes more rich and rewarding with every return visit.

Joe Jackson - Collected (2010)
3 CD Unknown Rip | FLAC (Tracks) + CUE, NO LOG | 1.4 GB | + Covers
Genre: Pop/Rock/New Wave/Alternative/Indie | Label: Universal Music | Catalog Number: 533069-5 | Release Date: 2010 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

In his 1999 memoir, A Cure for Gravity: A Musical Pilgrimage, Joe Jackson writes approvingly of George Gershwin as a musician who kept one foot in the popular and one in the classical realms of music. Like Gershwin, Jackson possesses a restless musical imagination that has found him straddling musical genres unapologetically, disinclined to pick one style and stick to it. The word "chameleon" often crops up in descriptions of him, but Jackson prefers to be thought of as "eclectic." Is he the Joe Jackson he appeared to be upon his popular emergence in 1979, a new wave singer/songwriter with a belligerent attitude derisively asking, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" The reggae-influenced Joe Jackson of 1980's Beat Crazy? The jump blues revivalist of 1981's Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive? The New York salsa-styled singer of 1982's "Steppin' Out"? The R&B/jazz-inflected Jackson of 1984's Body & Soul? Or is he David Ian Jackson, L.R.A.M. (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music), who composes and conducts instrumental albums of contemporary classical music such as 1987's Will Power and 1999's Grammy-winning Symphony No. 1? He is all of these, Jackson himself no doubt would reply, and a few others besides.

Bluesiana Triangle - Bluesiana II (1991)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Image) + CUE + LOG | 343 MB | + Covers
Genre: Jazz/Crossover Jazz/Jazz Blues | Label: Windham Hill | Catalog Number: 10133-2 | Release Date: 1991 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com + FS.com

Previously, Windham Hill Records released Bluesiana Triangle, a jazz trio album by drummer Art Blakey, pianist Dr. John, and reed man David "Fathead" Newman. Blakey passed away in 1990, but in the spring of 1991, Dr. John and Newman organized this second Bluesiana session, featuring trombonist Ray Anderson, drummer Will Calhoun, bassists Essiet Okon Essiet and Jay Leonhart (on different tracks), and percussionist Joe Bonadio. The resulting music again justifies the name, blues played in a funky Louisiana style with plenty of room for extended jazzy soloing. Though much of the material was written by Dr. John and he does sing occasionally, this is not a conventional Dr. John vocal album. It does contain some excellent playing, however.

A well-kept secret since his exceptional debut recording in 1993, Portrait (named Album of the Year by Living Blues magazine), Shields is bound to break through to the vastly larger audience he deserves with the richly textured sounds and seductions of his latest effort, Midnight Delight. As varied in his styles as his late mentor, Frank Frost, he offers up dark danceable blues (like "I'm Bad" and "What Am I Gonna Do with All These Women?"), engaging soul ("Midnight Delight," "Woman, I Want to Talk to You"), and irresistible radio-ready fare ("Flowers in the Rain," "Long, Lonesome Road"). Barrelhouse Chuck - 25 Years Of Chicago Blues Piano (2000)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Image) + CUE + LOG | 406 MB | + Covers
Genre: Blues/Chicago Blues | Label: Barrelhouse Chuck | Catalog Number: No Number | Release Date: 2000 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

Chuck Goering is an unsung veteran of sorts. While his name doesn't inspire the reverence reserved for Pinetop Perkins, he had the rare opportunity to study under Chicago's blues piano legends. The journeyman cuts loose on this release and has a number of A-list stars sitting in. With a style that's both flexible and disciplined, he handles the ivories with ease. Willie Kent makes an appearance on his own tune, 'Mama Told Me', and transports the listener to a South Side juke joint. Other covers include Hound Dog Taylor's 'Walk In The Ceiling' and Earl Hooker's 'Wah Wah Blues'. Chuck takes great care in preserving the integrity of each tune and does so thanks to guest shots from Kent, Sam Lay and Carl Weathersby. A great collection of work!

Marcia Ball - Soulful Dress (1984)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Image) + CUE + LOG | 241 MB | + Covers
Genre: Blues/Modern Electric/Piano Blues | Label: Rounder/1989 | Catalog Number: CD-3078 | Release Date: 1984 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com + FS.com

Marcia Ball got things started in a celebratory fashion on her debut Rounder release, doing the title track in a taunting, challenging manner aided by flashy guitar riffs from Stevie Ray Vaughan. From there, she artfully displayed other sides of her personality, from dismayed to defiant and assured. Her rendition of "Soul On Fire" was heartfelt, but didn't approach the majestic quality of Lavern Baker's original. She did much better on "I Don't Want No Man," striking the air of disdain and dissatisfaction that Bobby "Blue" Bland immortalized on "I Don't Want No Woman"; guitarist Kenny Ray even got the Wayne Bennett licks down perfectly.

Genre: Blues | Label: JSP | Catalog Number: 2121 | Release Date: Apr 6, 2022 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com + FS.com

Scott Keeton and The Deviants released their new CD 100 Mile Blues, April 6, 1999. JSP signed the band last fall and this is their first release with them. All twelve tracks on this disc are original and range from deep guitar fueled blues such as "Nothing Left to Say," to the drag ‘em out "Back Door Shuffle," from the Dwight Yokum-flavored, "Look At That Girl" to the lyrical romantic playing of "Heart Break" and "Eye On You." It is great stuff and will particularly appeal to those of you with a taste for other cross-generic show stoppers such as The Paladins.
Keeton, based in Oklahoma City where this CD was recorded, has soaked in the musical sounds of the region -- not only blues and rock but also some gritty Southern soul as well. His unwavering commitment to the heart of its songs, a guitar style that could storm a besieged embassy, and a more than on the money vocal style push the listener to a special place. He has amassed twelve years of blues-playing experience, and has been the toast of the South and Southwestern blues clubs for at least seven years.
