Veronica and Boris are blissfully in love, until the eruption of World War II tears them apart. Boris is sent to the front lines... and then communication stops. Meanwhile, Veronica tries to ward off spiritual numbness while Boris' draft-dogging cousin makes increasingly forceful overtures. Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival, The Cranes Are Flying is a superbly crafted drama, bolstered by stunning cinematography and impassioned performances. (-DVD cover)

Veronica and Boris are walking in the streets of Moscow and they love each other. Veronica is laughing, cause they are happy together this morning. They see some cranes in the sky. When arriving to Veronica's house they talk about a rendezvous at the bank of the river. And the 2nd World War begins in Moscow. Boris works in a factory and he hasn't got time to speak with Veronica. He has to go to the war ... (http://imdb.com/title/tt0050634/plotsummary)

The story told by The Cranes are Flying is not, admittedly, all that original. Young lovers are separated by war; bad things happen to both. We've seen it many times before.Nonetheless, we haven't seen it filmed this well, with bold shots that take liberties to emphasize separation, or destruction, or hopelessness. All the more remarkable coming from the Soviet Union, and reason to conclude that Tarkovsky is not the last word in modern-era Soviet cinema. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0050634/usercomments)

This film featured brilliant, breathtaking, and extremely mobile camera work from the extraordinary cinematographer Sergei Uresevsky, using spectacular crane and tracking shots, images of wartime, battlefields, Moscow and crowded streets that are extremely vivid and real. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0050634/usercomments)

The film was released in 1957 in Russia, and according to some reviews, "the silence in the theater was profound, the wall between art and living life had fallen...and tears unlocked the doors." (http://imdb.com/title/tt0050634/usercomments)

hi FNB.47
quite a little time I am following your posts on the site (in fact you are the one who makes me discover RShare!) and I must say that sharing is the right word as I am sharing all of your tastes ... even if I already know most of the movies you've posted I must say BRAVO... and also TXS for the Bergman chef d'oeuvre... that one, even id I know it by heart 5 have downloaded it...
So as sharing is the main stuff I am gonna learn how to upload and soon (or maybe soon) you will get some stuff pretending to compet with yours... Fassbinder one for instance

here again TXS a lot for your work

FNB.47, twinsen, and all lovers of real cinema,

Indeed, there's thousands of great films, and FNB.47 has made this site the best in the world for us, with his tremendous efforts. Now he's back we need to "help" him and I'll do my little bit as much as time allows me. Twinsen, your intention is most welcome, specially Fassbinder, one of my favourite directors. I've got about 13 of his films, and intended to post some as well, including "Life Stories" interwiev with Rainer... English subtitles, or any other are needed, me I'm missing them for "Dritte Generation"...
Posted By: nazgul_epheles Date: 28 Feb 2007 14:10:43
does everyone have Theo Angelopoulos films?I have near all of his films :)And Zhang Yimou or Ozu...
I can help but my upload speed is so slow about 30k/s:D
Posted By: FNB47 Date: 28 Feb 2007 22:47:09

Yes twinsen, members of Avax are from all around the world and "unfortunately" English is the only common language. If I dont have Eng. s/t than I dont post that movie... ie. some of my all time favorites
Goretta - La Dentelliere
Resnais - Muriel ou Le temps d'un retour
Kawase - Suzaku
are waiting for Eng. subtitles.

Dear kharmok, I always appreciate your help and support. Thanks for the movies you have supplied for me.

nazgul_epheles, I am about to post "Tikhiy Don" with Eng.s/t and I will start posting Yimou and Ozu soon

cheers :)

Hello Ebooker, hello moritz,

Avax moderation have changed the section name "misc and web" to "misc"... so the shortcuts to some of my old movie pages became obsolete and we started to get "document not found" error-message.

Today I just published the new correct links to all of "my movies" on page

http://www.avaxhome.ws/video/sedotta_by_germi.html

cheers
