Winner of Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards, Departures takes a sensitive look at life through the rituals of death. Directed by Takita Yojiro (When the Last Sword is Drawn), Departures (a.k.a. Okuribito) follows the experiences of a young undertaker as he grows into his work. Backdropped by pastoral landscape and a majestic score from master composer Hisaishi Joe, Departures presents a simple, yet poignant study of how one man comes to terms with his unconventional profession, and how the customs of death affect and reflect the course of life. At times humorous and at times heartbreaking, the film approaches its topic with respect and realism, revealing a fascinating aspect of Japanese culture rarely seen on screen. Leading man Motoki Masahiro (Gemini) anchors the film with a magnificent, understated performance that won him Best Actor at the 51st Blue Ribbon Awards. Co-starring popular actress Hirosue Ryoko (Bubble Fiction: Boom or Bust) and veteran Yamazaki Tsutomu, Departures has garnered many other accolades including sweeping Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, and Actor at the 32nd Japan Academy Awards. Thanks Connie, and thanks Accatone for the RS links. I don't expect the 4Shared links to be alive for long - but you never know! :)

Thanks for the alternate upload accatone. But downloaders should be aware that yours is not a "mirror" of my upload. Based on your subs, I take it your version is still in 2 parts. I joined mine together to make it continuous, with the subs to match. (Also yours has 1 extra part, so obviously your parts are not interchangeable with mine.)

Another note to downloaders:
The English subtitles accatone has posted are not the original subtitles written by the author 8thSin. The most notable change is that they have had all the italics removed. These were used to indicate thoughts and to emphasise certain words.

Anyone wanting an even higher quality version of the movie (with the original fansub subtitles) can now get it here: http://www.mininova.org/tor/2409110

@LezDawson
4shared links stay alive as long as you login to your 4shared account at least one a month. Which I currently do. (The month I forget they will die, though.)

@ Connie

Yes I know, I have a 4Shared account myself, which I've had for a few years now - but it's not like RapidShare or Megaupload, etc - they're much less liberal about copyrighted material, and if you get reported for doing this they will just ban you from the site.
But it's probably not a big risk. Well done for a fine share :)

Oh, I compared the two versions of the subs. The one-parter one has italics, the two-parter one does not - but the translations and timings are identical.

I should add: I cannot recommend this film enough. Best film I have seen so far this year.
