During the hot summer, 5 kids, "Les Mistons", spy on two lovers. They follow Gerard and Bernadette everywhere. Les Mistons send a suggestive postcard to Bernadette once Gerard is away. But a newspaper learn to all of them that Gerard just died by accident. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0050714/plotsummary)
Two years before LES 400 COUPS, french director François Truffaut shot LES MISTONS (1957), a short movie dealing with children and a young couple. Gérard Blain and Bernadette Lafont impersonate the lovers followed by the bunch of " mistons ". Both actors will become, with Jean-Claude Brialy who appears briefly as a character of the movie chosen by Gérard and Bernadette, THE actors of the french " Nouvelle Vague " (1958-1965).
François Truffaut's 1957 short "Les Mistons" (roughly translated to "The Brats") is an early testament to Truffaut's affinity with kids and his first exploration of impossible love. Five boys palling around one summer fall for a teen beauty, but as the narrator (one of the five) describes, "Too young to love Bernadette, we decided to hate her--and torment her." These adolescent boys are neither cute nor innocent, but Truffaut sympathizes with the frustration born of budding hormones and sexual mystery. (--Sean Axmaker - Editorial Reviews - Amazon.com)
'Les Mistons' is a short made two years before Truffaut's first feature, when he was still best known as a polemical critic. It is a very sad tale about young lovers spied on by a group of brats, and has the casual tragic force of Renoir's 'A Day in the country' or Demy's later 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'; and yet is most memorable for its sheer schoolboy-like joy in location shooting, trickery and allusion, affirming cinema's power over life's transience.

Welcome back, and thanks for this early Truffaut. I think I saw it, long time ago...
I'm still catching up!! I burned about 40 DVDs last night and then I find today my burner is failing in many ways...GRRR!
I only bought it about 5 months ago. SONY OPTIARC AD-7170A Burner and I only bought that as it was the recommended burner in an issue of PC Magazine. Crap!
It is actually failing to read the disc's I burned yesterday!!
Arrgghh!! I have deleted the files I burned!
(No worries - When I put the disc's in my standalone DivX/DVD player the movie files are there and everything plays fine).
I am confused about this damn burner. If I reboot or try over and over then sometimes it DOES read a Disc or two!
I am getting three different errors in the event Log which all indicate a dirty Disc or lens or some other kind of communication failure somewhere between the surface of the Disc and the PC.
The thing is, I bought this one only 6 months after I bought a new one before that and the reason for replacing it was similar...it wouldn't read older disc's I had burned with it! Then the new burner (the one I have now) did read those, no problem.
I am sick of DVDRW Drives.
Not sure if I should just buy another new one(they are cheap after all) as I have read it might be the IDE controller or something that has the problem!
Sorry for the long off topic ramble on but I had to tell someone and I have no friends to speak of since discovering avaxhome.
you are my best friend avaxhome, so YOU must help me.
It is your fault actually when I think about it.
Damn you avaxhome!
Cheers,
Fa
Hello Fa,
Me too, a heavy DVD-R burner... I've been using NEC, LG, Toshiba and Pioneer DVD-RW drives for many years. For me, the most reliable one is "Pioneer". I am planning to buy a new Pioneer-drive with SATA-interface but my 2-years-old Pioneer-110 still works perfectly... ([/end of Ads]] :))
>....thought you could've had a longer break you know!

You're right, but I'll be on vacation by late Aug. and early Sept. so I thought I should post something before I go to holiday...
And thanks for the Truffaut.
So I just say: I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
Fa,
I had a fallen Pioneer 110(?) (it would and it wouldn't read disks), and a (possibly?)fallen NEC DVD RWs, now I've got a cheap LG and it works faultlesly for the past 6 months...and I have an old LG combo which still works fine after 3-4 years...I wouldn't buy Sony, I dislike them for some reason...so from my expirience: cheap + LG = works at the moment...I think we have to buy new drives like new shoes :-)
I have to admit I have less time for my friends after I met FNB47 and my girlfriend complains as well :-) , but I have some new friends here, and I feel younger and much richer person :)
sony,
Welcome to the best Cinema in the world!
Thanks for that! ;)
