Whoever thought jazz is a marginal branch of music meant for small cellar pubs was disabused at the ACT jubilee concerts during the first week of February 2012. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Munich label, jazz visited the impressive concert halls in Germany. Around 4.500 people followed its call and experienced during the four concert nights how the spotlight was turned on jazz. ACT all-star ensemble consisting of nine musicians thrilled the audience at the Philharmonie in Berlin (KMS), Muffathalle in Munich, Tonhalle in Dusseldorf and Laeiszhalle in Hamburg in a performance that according to the German magazine BUNTE was “a world class session with the very best of jazz”.

This important collection of folk songs from the Chicano movement, which began in the Southwest in the mid-'60s and continues today, covers 30 years of history. The heulga (strike) songs, moviemento (anthems), and the corridos (narrative songs of heroism and valor) come out of many forms including the conjunto sounds of the Texas-Mexico border. None of these tunes were recorded for commercial or critical purposes but rather as documents of struggle and inspiration. (...) Hip-O's Gold: '80s Metal provides two full discs of spandex anthems than run the gamut from brooding progressive rock (Queensrÿche's "Eyes of a Stranger") to sleazy hair metal (Bulletboys' "Smooth Up in Ya"). The compilation covers an awful lot of ground (Kingdom Come, Dangerous Toys, Bang Tango), but there are enough Headbanger's Ball classics here, like Accept's "Balls to the Wall", Winger's "Seventeen", Warrant's "Cherry Pie", and most importantly Autograph's "Turn Up the Radio", to satisfy the masses.
