Here's a tantalising prospect: a compilation of obscure European library music dating from 1975 to 1984. Delivering on the promise of its title, this album is crammed with peculiar, predominantly electronic grooves all riffing on a spacey, sci-fi theme. You'll encounter probing oscillations, stripped-down drum machine emissions and all out vintage disco goodness - there even appears to be a track included from Black Devil Disco Club's Bernard Fevre: 'Dali' clocks in at just under a minute and a half, sounding like a cross between Sven Libaek's film music and some lost proto Italo classic. It's virtually impossible to not be won over by this collection, and while it might be accused of pandering to kitsch tastes, compositionally this stuff really impresses. Not only does it tend to be sonically interesting in its post-Radiophonic bleeps and blips, but thanks to the clever selections of its French curators Alexis Le-Tan and Jess, there's a lighthearted dancefloor compatibility running throughout the entire album. Ace.
