This is Burmester test CD II; OUT of print and OUT of reach. this disc has this magnetism that is almost sinful to admit. I put it down to good marketing ploy by Burmester, which builds hardware too expensive for most working humans but generates excitement in the audio circuit (free publicity) through such limited edition software.

The very simple and almost undecorated white CD cover conceals this gem. At the flip side of the front cover merely prints the song titles. My first impression of this lack of description or economy of words, conjure a “careless” attitude in the cosmetics of this CD. Perhaps, a demo CD, in the manufacturer’s mind would just end up in some showroom without cover!? But a CD this expensive (in the black market, if you can find a seller) and this good without any production credits and details could be hard to accept. This is a real teaser courtesy of Burmester.

If the first cut is the deepest, then the opening The Moon is a Harsh Mistress would leave you in deep sentiment. I wonder if you have experience songs that must be finished whenever you press the start button. Well, you have one here. Stopping or skipping midway is almost unthinkable because that is not the way to treat a beautiful song. Radka Toneff is the lady behind this enchanting tune. I think it is conveniently located (track #1) to quickly settle down edgy Burmester prospects who come by to their showroom.

Besides sweet vocals, there are light and heavy classicals; latin guitar; electric blues from Steve Ray Vaughan; big wind sax from Ben Webster; deep troublesome double bass from forever young Rickie Lee Jones and a three-in-one track from progressive rock outfit Pink Floyd (from The Wall). If you want to hear how low can you go, take on track #7 Lindenkirche Berlin by Gerhard Oppelt. Yes, anything and everything to show off their equipment can be found here. Regardless of musical taste of a customer, there must be one track (at least) that hits him and it will hit him hard (on his pockets too). However, if you’re playing this at home, the good of this recording could turn out bad when you find your system out of gas in handling some of the dynamics and probably the low energy shaking its head on your furniture (like it did me).

The impeccable, top-notch recording is besides the point (this is Burmester showpiece, remember?) what awe me is the high quality selection of songs.

:) there's no fancy covers for these brilliant CDs, only their brandname and tracklist (as you can see in the pictures). What important here is the sound quality so Burnmester decided to save some printing cost to offer us a "little bit higher !?" sound and CD quality. LOL think so.
