- a stunning "Director's cut edition" of the landmark 1973 album - Produced, authorised and overseen by Pete Townshend

Quadrophenia is the sixth studio album by the English rock band The Who, released in 1973. Quadrophenia is a double album, and the group's second rock opera. Recently the album was remastered and re-released again as Super Deluxe Box Set edition. This box set gives a unique insight into the creation of this landmark album and features a remaster of the original double album, Pete Townshend's previously unheard demos including songs that didn't make it onto the original album, a deluxe hard-back book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, memorabilia and other exclusive material.

allmusic.com says:
Pete Townshend revisited the rock opera concept with another double-album opus, this time built around the story of a young mod's struggle to come of age in the mid-'60s. If anything, this was a more ambitious project than Tommy, given added weight by the fact that the Who weren't devising some fantasy but were re-examining the roots of their own birth in mod culture. In the end, there may have been too much weight, as Townshend tried to combine the story of a mixed-up mod named Jimmy with the examination of a four-way split personality (hence the title Quadrophenia), in turn meant to reflect the four conflicting personas at work within the Who itself. The concept might have ultimately been too obscure and confusing for a mass audience. But there's plenty of great music anyway, especially on "The Real Me," "The Punk Meets the Godfather," "I'm One," "Bell Boy," and "Love, Reign o'er Me." Some of Townshend's most direct, heartfelt writing is contained here, and production-wise it's a tour de force, with some of the most imaginative use of synthesizers on a rock record. Various members of the band griped endlessly about flaws in the mix, but really these will bug very few listeners, who in general will find this to be one of the Who's most powerful statements.

Not being able to see the original, it appears many of the pictures are chopped into two parts since they are too large for one scan to fit. It appears the top part is scanned and then the bottom part is scanned.
Just wondering

@ ALLexxess

Thank you very much for adding the 24/96 files. It is a shame that all original tracks at 24/96 were not included with this box set, but I am very happy with this.

This is a magnificent share by you and perfecta. I cannot thank both of you enough.

I look forward to comparing this to the JPN 1st pressing. That should be interesting.

Thanks perfecta!

Imo, the DVD-A stereo tracks aren't worth downloading as they are not the same mix as the original stereo tracks.
They appear to have been created from the 5.1 surround mix, and the result is inferior by comparison.

Cheers.

Anyone else having problems burning these downloads to discs that play back correctly?
Posted By: quadstone Date: 30 Nov 2011 01:11:04
The ISO is a bit "off" from what I'm used to. I'm guessing it wasn't a DVDFab clone rip, as no layerbreak info was provided and IMGburn didn't like it; that being said I ignored
all the dire warnings IMGburn threw in my face, told it to burn anyway (DL disc of course) and it made a playable DVD-Audio disc recognized by both my Oppo DV-980H and BDP-93.
I have yet to play it all the way through to see if the layerbreak issue haunts me, but so far to the halfway point it plays and sounds great. I haven't tried the stereo either, just the 5.1. *Update* The whole DVD-A plays fine for me despite IMGburn not "liking" the ISO. Both surround and stereo streams had no errors...and what a treat to listen to.

Who?
What?
Where?
Why?

WTF???

This quite possibly may be to single most RIGHTEOUS post not just on this forum but on the whole stinkin internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quadrophenia in 5.1? Are we in Heaven??? I think so, yes (yes, I know the whole album isn't in 5.1), but this
is still a real absolute precious MUST HAVE for anybody with a pair of ears & a pulse!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted By: thehague Date: 30 Nov 2011 09:26:31
@ Zombiecooking: to play highres files burned to DVD you'd need a DVDA player. Highres files can't be burned to CD-R (well, downsampled to 44.1 kHz they can).
Posted By: thehague Date: 30 Nov 2011 21:17:54
The high res release is lovely, but it is beyond me why they released only a partial album in that format.
Posted By: Rehabilly Date: 30 Nov 2011 21:39:07
... too many weird people here, and everybody happy with pointless "Hi-Res" bootleg... Why, for whom? Never understand that hobby (or just fashion?).
Let me say THANKS for sharing an excellent version of this album in usual CD quality. It sounds great also! :)
