After the phenomenal success of TAKIN' OFF, Herbie Hancock's second release for Blue Note was constructed in the mold of its predecessor. The tantalizing MY POINT OF VIEW offers many of the same early Hancock signature moments, but with an expanded palette that reflects the pianist's growing experience. A larger ensemble helped to broaden the range of this release as Blue Note regulars Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, and Grant Green add to Hancock's sonic textures. Also on board are the advanced trombonist Grachan Moncur III, Bill Evans' bassist Chuck Israels, and the young drum wonder Tony Williams.

Geri Allen - Timeless Portraits and Dreams (2006)

Geri Allen - Timeless Portraits and Dreams (2006)
MP3 HQ 320 kbps | front cover | 00:58:30 | 138 MB (+3%)
Piano Jazz, Post-Bop | Label: Telarc #83645

Like the best pianists, Geri Allen is a master at being able to alternately carry a song or provide background inflections that are subtle yet can't be missed. It's clear right away on the beautiful "Melchezedik", then the short but sweet "Portraits and Dreams", which she does a reprise of at the end. She shines alongside Carmen Lundy's vocals in "Well Done", an aptly titled song, shines solo on "La Strada" and "Nearly". Later, she gets together with husband Wallace Roney on "In Real Time" and later "Our Lady", the latter of which she wrote as a tribute to Billie Holiday. This is a beautiful CD, and if you haven't bought a Geri Allen CD before, get this one. --Amazon

This is a memorable meeting of a pair of genial giants - Sonny Rollins, who has been called again and again the boss of the modern tenor sax, and Coleman Hawkins, who is the father of jazz saxophone playing. Each has made enormous contributions to jazz improvisation, beyond the limits of his instrument. The sum total of their work forms the impressive foundation for this once-in-a-lifetime album.

Count Basie Meets Oscar Peterson - The Timekeepers (1978) [1993 JVC XRCD2 JVCXR-0206-2]
EAC rip | FLAC+CUE+LOG+Artwork -> 262 Mb

Jazz, Classic Jazz

This album finds two pianists with very different styles pairing off. Basie is the lapidary minimalist, playing one perfectly placed note where others, like, well, Peterson would be a prime example, would run a flashy scale. (As you might guess, I favor Basie's approach.) They try to meet somewhere in the middle on this recording, and for the most part succeed. A gently swinging blues-based session, well-recorded by Val Valentin.

David Fiuczynski & John Medeski - Lunar Crush [Japan Edition] (2007)
1CD | EAC-Rip | APE-image +cue +log +Booklet/SCANS | Original Release: 1994 | 442,81 Mb
Genre: Jazz, Fusion, Funk | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Videoarts VACM-1315 | Hotfile, Turbobit, Sharingmatrix, Fileserve

In a break from Medeski, Martin & Wood, retro keyboardist John Medeski gets co-billing with free-thinking guitarist David Fiuczynski in a freestyle dive into a maelstrom of funk, hip-hop, jazz, and rock that grooves all the way down to the last laser pit. Medeski works out on an electronically modified Wurlitzer electric piano and a B-3 organ, playing in a funky, depth-charged, jagged style while Fiuczynski is forever chopping up the lines, streaking around the keyboards, emulating Hendrix or earlier, straighter blues guitarists.

Circum Grand Orchestra - Le Ravissement (2010)
MP3 VBR 256 kbps | Label: Circum-Disc | No Covers | 106.7 MB
Genre: Jazz | Release: 2010 | 1CD

Day in 2010 its 10 years of existence and book a second disc on the Circum-Disc label, the Rapture, from a new creation. After a project about the song, then a project "monumental" with Feldspar (Circum Grand Orchestra + The Octopus), the orchestra returns to a purely instrumental music, based on a rich writing, both rhythmic and lyrical, composed mainly by Olivier Benoit. The six titles that comprise the album also give the opportunity to hear the improvisational qualities of members of the orchestra. The Circum Grand Orchestra is an outstanding training to more than one way. Group of 12 musicians in an orchestra Circum double rhythm section (two guitars, two basses, two drums and piano), supported by five of the strongest winds, compositions rich and varied range of jazz's most experimental song on the loose. All this gives a dense and powerful music, which does not hesitate to play itself and to overcome any stylistic constraint.
