Joseph "Joe" Satriani (born July 15, 1956) is an American instrumental rock guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and multiple Grammy Award nominee. Early in his career, Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and some of his former students have achieved fame such as Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan and Alex Skolnick. Satriani has been a driving force in music credited to other musicians throughout his career, as a founder of the G3 tour, as well as performing in various positions with other musicians.

Guitarist Ronnie Montrose began his career as a backing musician, playing with Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, and Edgar Winter. He finally formed his own band in 1973. Named after the guitarist, Montrose also featured vocalist Sammy Hagar, bassist Bill Church, and drummer Denny Carmassi; they released their debut album in 1974, and Church was replaced by Alan Fitzgerald shortly after its release. This double CD contains the earliest known recordings of Paul Kossoff, whose tragic death in March 1976 robbed the rock world of one of its finest-ever blues guitarists. Taped at rehearsals with Black Cat Bones in London in 1967, the raw, lo-fi tracks find the teenager already a master of his instrument. Accompanied by musicians including Derek and Stuart Brooks (later to form the legendary Leaf Hound), and featuring a guest appearance from Paul Rodgers (soon to form Free with Kossoff), the recordings are of considerable historical importance. This box was released in May 2007. It contains everything on Antrabata's "Sessions", Midas Touch's "Brutal Artistry" and "Brutal Artistry II", and Empress Valley's "The Lost Mixes EP Voume 1". Antrabata and the Midas Touch both titles were all three released in 1997, and Empress Valley in 2001.
