Donald Fagen - The Nightfly - Original US LP Mastered By Robert Ludwig (pbthal rip)
Original rip 24-bit/192kHz > redbook | Flac | thumbnail, orginal pbthal txtfile | 283mb

Donald Fagen's 1982 solo debut extends the sleek, smart pop craft of his work with Steely Dan into the realm of the concept album, taking the Dan's penchant for intricate plotting, evocative narrative voices, and allusive imagery to the logical next step. Fagen's connective thread is futurist nostalgia for the "New Frontier" as anticipated from the prosperous vantage point of late-'50s America. He romanticizes a brave new world of technology in the sultry diorama of "I.G.Y.," celebrating the coming glories of the Atomic Age. He then filters that view through his own suburban adolescence--a would-be seduction in a fallout shelter, the siren song of a graveyard-shift jazz DJ, a not-quite-hard-boiled noir adventure ("The Goodbye Look") that borrows its title from an early '60s Ross MacDonald mystery. Song for song, the set's a stunner and stands apart from Steely Dan thanks to a unique, poignant romanticism embodied in Fagen's yearning "Maxine" and a creamy update of Dion & the Belmonts' "Ruby Baby." --Sam Sutherland

I really don't know what this man's problem is , stubbornly posting such a great rips in 44.1/16 after ripping it in 192/24(as of late).
I'm familiar with his uploading pace , bandwidth is not an issue for him.
It's like he's rubbing it in ,in many places of his posts: I got it in X quality but only kind enough to give you the x quality.
Only in this phtbal case I do look in horse mouth , for me his rips are not welcome(flame if you like).
If you somehow connected to this guy tell him to stop this "redbook" BS , if one wants to downsample for CD , one will do it by himself.

peace

xlebywek, I agree with you to a certain extent, but evan at 16/44.1 his rips sound better than 99% of the 24/96 - 24/192 I've heard. I'd love them at his original ripping rate, but for me, at least, he's the only show in town for many many rips. His Led Zeppelin II is incredible and Ebbetts' Beatles pales in comparison to the pbthal rips.

You miss my point
Its not about comparative quality , it's about respecting other people(and no , I'm not going to extremes here).
The man re-ripped his entire collection in 192khz , becouse dooh , it does sounds better , and still (!!!) posting 44.1khz....
So what's the deal ? If I have some complaints for something I get for free (from enthusiast that gets great results for himself but keeps it for himself) than automatically I'm a troll (some other ripper used the term here earlier(LOL)) ?
Well , it wont go like that , he posts it in enthusiast communities in degraded quality(by the man himself),no go for me.
It seems that he is loyal to HIS OWN enthusiasm
Bottom line , I prefer to not download his posts (instead of bashing all over forums he is on), only got very few that my sweetheart likes.
That's why I respect aksman so much , you can sense that the man fully aware of everything he does , without being pretentious or a general ASS(quote: ask what 192khz can do for you...)
As said before , flame if you like , this is strictly IMHO.

peace

I'm probably as foolish for answering you, again, as you are for your ongoing rant to noone in particular.

You seem to be inviting (almost begging for) some kind of flaming retributions from those who don't quite see the issue your way. At the risk of playing amateur psychologist, as are you, I sense sour grapes behind your indignation. But that's not my problem, nor should it be anyone else's. With all due respect, if you can match HIS equipment, his vinyl collection and resources, then please issue your own rips equivalent to (or better than) HIS and post them in 24/192. There are too many egos in this needle drop hobby where everyone must choose sides, when in reality there's a wealth of variety out there in all bytes and bitrates.

Once again, HIS rips sound undeniably extraordinary, even in downsampled mode. One can take them or leave them, but to question or ponder motives is a pointless exercise in masochism.

I won't respond again, so I bid you peace and serenity and ask you to remember: it's the music, not the medium :)

This is YOUR side of this issue , and for what it's worth , you are 100% undeniably correct

Thank you, vinylsplendor, for offering us the best cd quality available of this classic album.
I think many of us are interested in similar releases of pbthal rips. Please be so kind to post more of them.

Man...don't be a jerk. If you've got 24/192, please post 24/192. This is Avax, and we are the Hounds of Audiophileville. Surely, we don't quite have the equipment and resources that match yours. And isn't this why we have this running community - to share ours best with each other? Come on now...!!! Even though I will take a DVD-A anytime over a vinyl rip, pbthal I have some respect for. So, please post in full splendor, Mr. vinylsplendor.

This is not a 24/192 rip!!!
Posted By: vinylsplendor Date: 08 Aug 2009 19:01:25
Dear friends, these are NOT my rips, as clearly stated in the header and body of text. Maybe you missed the discussion-dispute between xlebywek and luwhuo (see above) as to why the renown Mr. PBTHAL samples and records at 24/192, then choses to release in 16/44.1 (redbook) format. If you have any complaints, address them to the original ripper. Otherwise, download them if you want, and judge for yourselves. Also, you might do some easy reasearch about him, starting with his Beatles rips mentioned on Wikipedia.

So please don't shoot or cuss at the messenger. I'm only trying to bring some unusually good remasters, as is, that aren't generally accessible to the larger sharing audience.

Thank you.

you were saying ? ;-)

vinylsplendor: Thanks for the post. Respectfully,I don't think this is one of Pbthal's newer "192khz Remasters".

Why waste time with anything, xlebywek? "Who cares! Who cares! Who cares!" - bugged out tripping girl at an acid test in the "Sixties". Yeah, who cares?
I can dig your argument though. But then again, who cares?
:)

Enjoy the music wherever you can get it,yeah? I do also appreciate vinyl lovers here at Avax who post in a higher resolution. It is a nice thing.

Thanks for this redbook version. Excellent!

For DVD-Audio multi-channel hi def files, it was posted on Avaxhome just recently:

The Nightfly was originally a 16bit 50khz digital recording... fwiw, and I think it's worth knowing before one clamors for a high resolution digital rip. You can't get more resolution by magic. I'll stick with the DVD-Audio on this one. :-)
