Three recordings by Furtwängler have been selected for this set from different periods of his life and musical career:
- Berlin, March 1942: a recording taken away by the soviets from Berlin in 1945 and returned to Berlin in 1991 (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra). Obviously, this is not the version recently posted by rtep (thanks!, rtep).
- Bayreuth, July 1951: on the occasion of the re-opening of the Bayreuth Festspielhaus (Bayreuth Festival Orchestra).
- Lucerne, 1954: hist last performance of the Ninth (Philharmonia Orchestra).
