The scorching 'À nos amours' is one of Maurice Pialat's greatest achievements. In a revelatory film debut, the dynamic, fresh-faced Sandrine Bonnaire plays Suzanne, a fifteen-year-old Parisian (S. Bonnaire was also fifteen during filming) who embarks on a sexual rampage in an effort to separate herself from her overbearing, beloved father (played with astonishing magnetism by Pialat himself) ineffectual mother, and brutish brother. A tender character study that can erupt in startling violence, 'À nos amours' is one of the high-water marks of French cinema. (-DVD cover)

Suzanne is 15 and is having sex with many boys, just for fun, but did not manage to really love one of them. Her family does not understand her. The father does not like her behaviour. When he leaves home, the mother becomes a little bit neurotic. And Suzanne's brother Robert, begins to beat her as a punishment... (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/plotsummary)

If you are not tuned into the French psyche, then you haven't got a hope of enjoying a film like A Nos Amours. It's not that the French explore different life themes, or that they come up with original solutions to age-old universal problems, they just have that unique Gallic slant on everything - particularly the way people conduct their lives - which either enthralls you or infuriates you. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/usercomments)

Sandrine Bonnaire plays a pubescent girl who lives outside her emotions except when she's engaging in sexual intercourse. And she engages in plenty of that. She's a very happy person when in the company of young men in bed. She really doesn't have to pursue sexual partners, they find her and she's happy to accommodate. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/usercomments)

Needless to say, she lives in a dysfunctional family set up which is about to implode with the departure of her father from the familial home. She fights relentlessly with each family member, but it is her father she relates to and between them they have almost developed a normal father-daughter reciprocity (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/usercomments)

But she is not a normal girl and her listlessness can never really achieve happiness. Maybe she knows that she can never find love and she cannot understand why everyone else is so worried about it. After all, are they really happy in their lives? Can they force her to live the same way as they do? Will that make them happy? It certainly won't make her happy. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/usercomments)

I like narratives that avoid pigeon-holing characters and coming up with neat and pat solutions. The French seem to understand that life ain't simple, easy or formulaic, but it's better than the alternative and it's worth making the best of what you've got. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/usercomments)

On the cinematographic elements' level,Pialat's movie is austere. There is no bit of stylization, but each element has a 4th. dimension:the rapports' level. This dimension is widened by the music.Purcell's suitable music gives the action a strange coherence. The movie is made out of relations, rapports, reflections. Far from being some kind of a flat realism,Pialat's movie lives entirely out of this wealth of thought. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086650/usercomments)

Most important, this strengthener, firm, intelligent, bitter, even poignant realism is not fake. A courageous decision is the refusal of all stylization.(The "cruel movie",the ferocious movie relies on stylization.)True realism means ideas, reflection,a lively mind.Far from being mechanical and passive,it is fertile and elastic. Very sick case of pedophilia!!!
This is the response of FNB to the recent sex-scandal of US congressman Mark Foley. It appeares that FNB tries to keep update to the news but in a very sick manner.

But thanks for another great film!

I just do not agree with dadajan. This is just cinema, and anyone is free to see it or not, or like the movie or not. I did not see it yet, but thanks to FNB47 for his efforts to share this movie.

best regards to all

To dadajan:
I suggest you consult a psychotherapist. You need it badly.

BTW there are some minor quality issues showing in the first couple of minutes. Sometimes over-exposed, blown out areas that should be white have flickering black pixels in them. A little irritating but not too bad in the end. And it goes away too.

Personally, I'd really like to see "Loulou" (1980) uploaded. Thanks a lot!
