For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn has been chronicling American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools – with its emphasis on great men in high places – to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace.
Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, Zinn's A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of – and in the words of – its women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, working poor, and immigrant laborers. Here we learn that many of our country's greatest battles – labor laws, women's rights, racial equality – were carried out at the grassroots level, against steel-willed resistance. This edition of A People's History of the United States features insightful analysis of some of the most important events in this country in the past one hundred years.
Featuring a preface and afterword read by the author himself, this audio continues Howard Zinn's important contribution to a complete and balanced understanding of American history.

Many, many thanks to you, RageOn, for sharing this important work of Zinn's with everyone here. No one who is interested in US history, or indeed, with the history of the world at present, should ignore this.

Exelent - rar files open up into *.001 files and *.002 files. Not able to extract with rar archiver. Tried to rename to rar archive files, but in vain. How do you extract them? Do you need a special program? Couldn't you just have jused rar archiver? 90% of PC users all over the world have that installed.....
Posted By: RageOn Date: 30 Aug 2006 00:14:53
you'd just extract them, easy-peasy:) then you have 8 audio tracks
Posted By: Bogun Date: 30 Aug 2006 03:48:21
You can't extract them RageOn - what I got are rar archives
from
Audio Books A People's History of the United States.001
Audio Books A People's History of the United States.002
...
to
...
Audio Books A People's History of the United States.013
Audio Books A People's History of the United States.014

the complete archive was splitted into smaller parts by total commander, the files .001 - .014 must be combined and then you'll see Audio Books A People's History of the United States.rar

For those of you that are having problems extracting these files after extracting the *.rar files you need to open winrar program and not right click and open from the context menu. In the winrar console select the *.001 file and use the "extract to command" to get the sound files. These files have been packed by dosrar.exe command line tool that totalcommander uses.

Thanks RageOn. I forgot to thank you in my last entry.

Please disregard what I wrote about the winrar console I was getting corrupt file messages after dling the last of the files. It should have worked but it didn't. However there was no problem unraring the files using 7zip archiver. The files extracted flawlessly.

No, I'm afraid they DO NOT open with 7Zip... Well, I couldn't get it to work... tried "combining" the files and that wouldn't work either. A promising post has just been a complete waste of time. The PDF works, at least. RageOn, just archive with WinRar like everyone else.

from dos command prompt:
copy /b audiob~1.001 + audiob~1.002 + ... + audiob~1.014 audio.rar
You'll have "audio.rar" and unrar it.
