Hedningarna - Kaksi! - 1998
MP3 | 320 kbps | 99 MB | Covers
World | Sweden/Finland | Folk rock | Northside Records

The best Hedningarna album ever made. The core Swedish trio added two Finnish female vocalists, Sanna Kurki-Suonio and Tellu Paulasto (now Tellu Virkkala), and the resulting mix of cultures was nothing short of revolutionary when the album was released in 1992. This mix of Swedish, Finnish, vocals, instrumentals, traditional folk and contemporary rock forever changed the face of Nordic roots-rock music.

MP3 CBR 128 | 2000 | 41 MB
World, Blues, Jazz, Cajun, Creole | Putumayo | No Covers

Putumayo does itself mighty proud with Louisiana Gumbo. Drawing from various statewide sources and time periods, Gumbo celebrates rather than appropriates. Merging blues, jazz, Cajun, and Creole influences along with country-inflected rock, R&B, and piano in the styles of boogie-woogie and fast-pumping Ferriday chording, this group of selections is a magnificent representation of some of Louisiana's smartest and tastiest offerings.

Pinback - Blue Screen Life
MP3 CBR 192 | 2001 | 72 MB
Indie-Pop | Ace-Fu records | No Covers

Pinback perfects the essence of laid back home recording on Blue Screen Life, an album that sounds like a band set up in your living room, had some fun, and recorded a lo-fi indie-pop record for you.The harmonies, dual vocal lines, Zac Smith's signature bass tone, and Rob Crow's restrained yell are all defining elements of the band. When you hear any of those, you know it's Pinback. And, when you hear Blue Screen Life, you know that it's one of the most influential albums of the decade.

So called after an event , a flower, that blooms only once in its lifetime, this album was intended to mark "an event which affects enormous change, maybe once in a century: on a world scale, the atomic bomb: on a personal level, the death of someone close to you."

Quadro Nuevo - Luna Rossa
MP3 VBR 200 | 2005 | 91 MB
World, Jazz, Lounge | Justin Time Records | Covers

The debut album from Quadro Nuevo has already become a classic: Tangos and waltzes, flamenco and ballads full of the joy of life and Southern European nostalgia. The soundtrack for the last glass of red wine of the evening! All four musicians are fully capable of carrying the lead, but more often than not the bass plays a traditional role of keeping a strict time while the accordion lays a swaying bed for the guitar and saxophone to float above like playful birds.

Shelleyan Orphan - Helleborine
MP3 CBR 256 | 1987 | 81 MB
Ethereal, Dreampop | Columbia | No Covers

Shelleyan Orphan are one of those peculiar little groups that show up once in a while, make some stunning music, and then disappear. They have no peers, so trying to describe who they sound like is impossible. They are ethereal, and never more so than on their first album "Helleborine," a stunning mix of orchestral sweetness and lyrical mastery.
