Flute player Horgas Eszter and the world famous guitarist Al Di Meola revitalizing the "Carmen" performance, held precisely 5 years ago in the biggest arena in Budapest. It's been a long journey for Danilo Perez, from his native Panama, through associations with Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, and Wayne Shorter, through his own brilliant recordings: PanaMonk, Central Avenue, and Motherland. This disc is hands down his finest, featured on half of this recording bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade. In short, enjoyable jazz piano album.

Claudia Acuña is a fresh vocal talent from Santiago, Chile. Blessed with an attractive voice, clean enunciation (despite relatively basic English), and a good sense of musical time. The rangy repertoire here includes time-honored standards, songs sung in Acuna's native Spanish, contemporary delights like Stevie Wonder's "Visions," a lively reading of Gershwin's "My Man's Gone Now," and a bit of bop vocalese on "Long As You're Living." Also included are two duets with veteran pianist Harry Whitaker.

Mellower overall than his previous fare, there's still plenty of stunning guitar work and solid songcrafting to be had here. The songs cover a lot of stylistic bases, from rock to folk, Celtic, blues and somber balladeering. The disc is full, yet its diversity never becomes superfluous. A well-planned and pleasing slice of craftsmanship from one of rock's reigning originals.
