Made for Heaven: And Why on Earth It Matters
Publisher: HarperOne | pages: 112 | 2005 | ISBN: 0060766921 | PDF | 12,1 mb

Two of Lewis's most famous and compelling sermons have not received the attention they deserve-- "The Weight of Glory" and "Transposition." They are, in fact, grand reconceptualizations of the spiritual life. This book combines these two beautiful treatises, bringing their wisdom and insight into a whole new generation. An ideal book for those looking to go deeper after reading Mere Christianity.

Critical ontology: An introductory essay
Publisher: Jeevalaya Institute of Philosophy | pages: 55 | 2002 | ISBN: 8187664029 | PDF | 21,4 mb

Critical Ontology is conceived primarily as a method in philosophy. It is not a way of doing philosophy with some ontological considerations, however. It rather loves to see philosophy itself as critical ontology.

George W. Bush
Publisher: Chelsea House Publications | pages: 123 | 2002 | ISBN: 0791069400 | PDF | 12,7 mb

Jones' biography, from the new Modern World Leaders series (with an introduction by historian Arthur Schlesinger), begins with an administration high point: when Bush snuck into Iraq on Thanksgiving Day in 2003 to thank the troops personally. The book then returns to Bush's beginnings and proceeds chronologically through his early days, business life, and political career. Jones seems to give Bush the benefit of the doubt on controversial issues. For instance, in describing the president's actions on September 11, she says that when Bush received the news about a plane hitting the World Trade Center, he thought it had been an accident or mechanical failure. There's no mention of a recent briefing that specifically mentioned planes flying into buildings. The criticism the administration received following Hurricane Katrina gets short shrift as well--one paragraph and a photo caption. Photographs are well chosen, and although there's an extensive bibliography, there are no source notes. A chronology and a list of books for further reading are appended.

For the Love of God: Handbook for the Spirit
Publisher: New World Library | pages: 224 | 1999 | ISBN: 1577310985 | CHM | 11,2 mb

"To me, the key to spiritual growth and God-consciousness is understanding that we're not in this world to look for a new belief system," writes Reverend Michael Beckwith, a contributor to this outstanding selection of essays on personal relationships with the divine. "Instead, we are looking for ways to awaken to our real self." Beckwith's wisdom speaks to the core purpose of this superbly edited book. Diverse poetic and inspirational voices, such as Rabbi Harold Kushner, Mother Teresa, Hugh Prather, Brooke Medicine Eagle, and the Dalai Lama create a surprisingly harmonious message--one that sings the praises of finding and worshipping a God in one's self and one's life.

Nicomachean Ethics focuses on the importance of habitually behaving virtuously and developing a virtuous character. Aristotle argued that eudaimonia is the goal of life, and that a person's pursuit of eudaimonia, rightly conceived, will result in virtuous conduct.

Radical Equations: Civil Rights from Mississippi to the Algebra Project
Publisher: Beacon Press | pages: 352 | 2002 | ISBN: 0807031275 | PDF | 14,7 mb

They seem like unrelated concepts: civil rights and math literacy; Freedom Summer and the Algebra Project. When the individual who links them is Bob Moses, however, the unanticipated connections are worth exploring. Moses was a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee organizer in Mississippi in the 1960s. In part 1, he discusses the lessons of that experience, particularly involving the entire community and defining a goal (in Mississippi, voting rights) that empowers the community to address its other needs. In the twenty-first century, Moses argues, "the most urgent social issue affecting poor people and people of color is economic access . . . [and] economic access and full citizenship depend crucially on math and science literacy." For two decades, Moses and his associates have been developing an approach to middle-school math aimed at preparing every child for high-school and then college mathematics. Part 2 of Radical Equations traces that effort, its experiential pedagogy, and its application in urban and rural school districts. A surprising study of continuity and change in the struggle to reduce inequality and empower communities.

The Presidency
Publisher: Chelsea House Publications | pages: 112 | 2007 | ISBN: 0791092844 | PDF | 12,5 mb

For more than two centuries, a president's term in office has begun in the same way - with an inauguration and the oath of office. But within that simple vow to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States," an extraordinary range of power and responsibility is placed on each new president. "The Presidency" is an intriguing exploration into what it means to be the president of the United States. Since April 30, 1789, when George Washington stepped onto the balcony of Federal Hall in New York City, 43 men have assumed the title of President of the United States. This book examines how these men have each put their own stamp on the executive branch, and discusses how it has evolved as a reflection of their personalities and their visions for the country.

How could organisations unleash the potential of IT to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage? How can organisations migrate from technology to IT-enabled business thinking? Based on the author's twenty years research experience, this book provides a holistic picture of the factors that enable architecture, construction and engineering organisations to explore the potential of IT to improve their businesses and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. It raises awareness of the importance of the organisational 'soft issues' and the role they play in influencing the outcome of IT investments as well as addressing other complementary enablers, such as knowledge management, learning organisations, maturity models and e-readiness measurements.

Sing Them Over Again to Me: Hymns and Hymnbooks in America
Publisher: University Alabama Press | pages: 376 | 2006 | ISBN: 0817315055 | PDF | 21,7 mb

This work is a study of the importance of Protestant hymns in defining America and American religion. It explores the underappreciated influence of hymns in shaping many spheres of personal and corporate life as well as the value of hymns for studying religious life. Distinguishing features of this volume are studies of the most popular hymns ("Amazing Grace," "O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing," "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name"), with attention to the ability of such hymns to reveal, as they are altered and adapted, shifts in American popular religion. The book also focuses attention on the role hymns play in changing attitudes about race, class, gender, economic life, politics, and society.

The Dirac Equation
Publisher: Springer | pages: 357 | 1993 | ISBN: 3540548831 | PDF | 12,4 mb

The Dirac Equation is a modern presentation of the relativistic quantum mechanics of electrons intended to make new mathematical results accessible to a wider audience. It treats in some depth the relativistic invariance of a quantum theory, self-adjointness and spectral theory, qualitative features of relativistic bound and scattering states, and the external field problem in quantum electrodynamics, without neglecting the interpretational difficulties and limitations of the theory. A novel feature is the extensive use of supersymmetric quantum mechanics in the discussions of, e.g. the nonrelativistic limit, Fredholm and Witten indices, the relativistic Coulomb problem, particles with anomalous moments, behaviour in the presence of magnetic fields, and soliton theory. The book is aimed at scientists and graduate students interested in quantum mechanics who want to learn about the mathematical foundations, the physical interpretation and important applications of Dirac's electron theory.
