Software Engineering for Game Developers (Software Engineering Series)
Publisher: Course Technology PTR | ISBN: 1592001556 | edition 2004 | PDF | 890 pages | 17 mb

Software engineering leads to better software products. This book teaches readers how to develop games according to a design and follow a standardized approach to game development. It provides a multitude of exercises that show just how software engineering practices can improve your game. All the basic categories of software engineering are covered. Programmers, designers, architects, generalists, software engineers, and game developers seeking knowledge about standard frameworks for games and their relative merits will find this text more than satisfying. Three frameworks (function, object-oriented, and patterned) are presented, contrasted, and fully described through design documents.

Molecular Biology of Human Cancers: An Advanced Student's Textbook
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1402065590 | edition 2007 | PDF | 516 pages | 14,8 mb

Over the last three decades, knowledge on the molecular biology of human cancers has vastly expanded. A host of genes and proteins involved in cancer development and progression have been defined and many mechanisms at the molecular, cellular and even tissue level have been, at least partly, elucidated. Insights have also been gained into the molecular mechanisms underlying carcinogenesis by chemical, physical, and biological agents and into inherited susceptibility to cancer.
Accordingly, Part I of the book presents many of the molecules and mechanisms generally important in human cancers. Following an overview on the cancer problem, individual chapters deal with cancer genetics and epigenetics, DNA damage and repair, oncogenes, tumor suppressors, regulatory pathways in cancer, apoptosis, cellular senescence, tumor invasion, and metastasis.

Microeconomics of Banking
Publisher: The MIT Press | ISBN: 0262061937 | edition 1997 | PDF | 323 pages | 14,4 mb

Twenty years ago, most banking courses focused on either management or monetary aspects of banking, with no connecting. Since then, a microeconomic theory of banking has developed, mainly through a switch of emphasis from the modeling of risk to the modeling of imperfect information. This asymmetric information model is based on the assumption that different economic agents possess different pieces of information on relevant economic variables, and that they will use the information for their own profit. The model has been extremely useful in explaining the role of banks in the economy. It has also been useful in pointing out structural weaknesses of the banking sector that may justify government intervention--for example, exposure to runs and panics, the persistence of rationing in the credit market, and solvency problems.
Microeconomics of Banking provides a guide to the new theory. Topics include why financial intermediaries exist, the industrial organization approach to banking, optimal contracting between lenders and borrowers, the equilibrium of the credit market, macroeconomic consequences of financial imperfections, individual bank runs and systemic risk, risk management inside the banking firm, and bank regulation. Each chapter ends with a detailed problem set and solutions.

Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia: Fishes I
Publisher: Gacl | ISBN: 0787657808 | edition 2003 | PDF | 475 pages | 72,8 mb

Following an extensive six- to nine-chapter overview, organization is taxonomical. Each family or order is discussed in terms of general description, evolution, structure and function, distribution, habitat, behavior, feeding, reproduction, conservation status, and relationship to humans. These descriptions are generally followed by anywhere from 2 to 20 representative species accounts that include rich illustrations and range maps. Formatting and layout are similar in all of the volumes, making the set consistent and easy to use. Illustrations, photos, and maps are in full color, serving the needs and expectations of today's readers. Editing of the volumes is tight, yielding uniform entries written by numerous expert contributors.

Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia: Vol. 2 Protostomes
Publisher: Gale | ISBN: 0787657786 | edition 2003 | PDF | 589 pages | 42,1 mb

H. C. Bernhard Grzimek hoped his original encyclopedia would "disseminate knowledge of the animals and love for them." This is also a goal of the revised edition; it does not disappoint. All volumes follow a similar organization. Introductory chapters, written in a narrative style, are usually followed by taxonomic chapters and species accounts, which follow a prescribed format. There are no page references from the main account of the species to the illustrations; the index at the end of each volume must be consulted. Color photographs, illustrations, and distribution maps supplement the text. Additional resources include references to books, periodical articles, organizations, and Web sites.

OpenGL Game Programming w/CD (Prima Tech's Game Development)
Publisher: Course Technology PTR | ISBN: 0761533303 | edition 2002 | PDF | 812 pages | 10,6 mb

OpenGL is an application programming interface (API) that exposes hardware features needed to create computer graphics. Unlike Microsoft's Direct3D, which only works on Windows, OpenGL works across all platforms. OpenGL Game Programming is a complete guide to game development using the OpenGL graphics API. Myriad examples are included to demonstrate various concepts such as coloring, texture mapping, blending, lighting, coordinate transforms, 3D modeling, collision detection, and several other key concepts involved in game development. It also covers how to integrate the non-graphical elements of Microsoft's DirectX into OpenGL games so that users can incorporate sound, music, and networking functions. Teaching users how to use OpenGL to create dynamic 3D environments and effects for use in game development, this book covers all the fundamentals so that users can program OpenGL API to its fullest potential. Anyone interested in game development will find the information in this book invaluable as they begin to create dynamic game graphics. Series editor André LaMothe has published numerous magazine articles and is an international best-selling author with over six game programming and 3D graphics titles to his credit.
