Modern NMR Spectroscopy: A Workbook of Chemical Problems
Oxford University Press | ISBN: 0198558120 | 1993-10-07 (2nd edition)| pdf | 136 pages | 11.0 Mb | RS

Nuclear magnetic resonance techniques have advanced dramatically in recent years, and are now more powerful and more versatile than ever before. In order to exploit these techniques efficiently, chemists must have both an understanding of the techniques' theoretical bases and the ability to interpret the spectra accurately. This workbook presents worked examples and set problems that cover one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques as applied to organic and inorganic systems. Most of the problems are genuine research examples, and this second edition contains numerous new problems derived from recent work, particularly with regard to symmetry and exchange. This new edition is fully compatible with the second edition of Modern NMR Spectroscopy: A Guide for Chemists--the two books are cross-referenced throughout. Students using this book will gain experience in applying advanced NMR techniques in a chemical context and teachers will find it a useful source of new problems and modern examples. For professional scientists, the book provides valuable information which will enable them to use familiar techniques more effectively.

Springer | ISBN: 1852335254 | 2003-10-01 | PDF | 491 pages | 13.0 Mb | RS

Machine vision technology has revolutionised the process of automated inspection in manufacturing. The specialist techniques required for inspection of natural products, such as food, leather, textiles and stone is still a challenging area of research. Topological variations make image processing algorithm development, system integration and mechanical handling issues much more complex. The practical issues of making machine vision systems operate robustly in often hostile environments together with the latest technological advancements are reviewed in this volume. Features:
- Case studies based on real-world problems to demonstrate the practical application of machine vision systems.
- In-depth description of system components including image processing, illumination, real-time hardware, mechanical handling, sensing and on-line testing.
- Systems-level integration of constituent technologies for bespoke applications across a variety of industries.
- A diverse range of example applications that a system may be required to handle from live fish to ceramic tiles.
Machine Vision for the Inspection of Natural Products will be a valuable resource for researchers developing innovative machine vision systems in collaboration with food technology, textile and agriculture sectors. It will also appeal to practising engineers and managers in industries where the application of machine vision can enhance product safety and process efficiency.

Plant Analysis Procedures
Springer | ISBN: 1402027699 | 2005-05-24 | PDF | 179 pages | 791 Kb | RS

This manual is intended for the practising chemist who has to do a job in analysing plant material. Therefore, the present manual only contains ready-to-hand procedures without any comment. The procedures described are only for inorganic components, which frequently occur in the plant. Most procedures are designed to give a total content value of the element under consideration, regardless of the chemical structure in which it occurs in the plant.
We have chosen for a design in which all digestion procedures are described in one chapter, all extraction procedures in one chapter and all determination procedures in one chapter. As a consequence, one has to choose a suitable digestion method in combination with the intended determination technique; this has been indicated within each individual determination procedure.
For determination of the elements, mainly spectrometric techniques are used here. Depending on the kind of element and the expected concentration level, the following methods are applied: flame atomic emission spectrometry (flame AES), flame atomic absorption spectrometry (flame AAS), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), electrothermal atomisation (graphite furnace) atomic absorption spectrometry (ETA-AAS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), spectrophotometry and segmented flow analysis (SFA). Besides, potentiometry (ion selective electrodes (ISE)) and coulometry will be encountered. In many cases, more than one method is described to determine a component. This provides a reference, as well as an alternative in case of instrumental or analytical problems.

Solanaceae and Convolvulaceae: Secondary Metabolites: Biosynthesis, Chemotaxonomy, Biological and Economic Significance
Springer | ISBN: 3540745408 | 2008-01-08 | PDF | 638 pages | 6.2 Mb

This comprehensive and interdisciplinary handbook provides a birds-eye view of two centuries of research on secondary metabolites of the two large Solanales families, Solanaceae and Convolvulaceae. Arranged according to their biosynthetic principles, the occurrence and chemical structures of almost all known individual secondary metabolites are covered, which are found in hundreds of wild as well as cultivated solanaceous and convolvulaceous species. In addition to the biosynthesis, the pharmacological, toxicological, ethnobotanical, ecological, and economic significance of the metabolites is treated. A major aim of this book is the individual phytochemical characterization of the Solanales taxa on the species level. Species are integrated into frameworks of traditional and molecular phylogeny-based classifications. This allows a detailed discussion of chemotaxonomic relationships with regard to all taxon levels up to the order. The text is supplemented by 83 superb color photos of Solanales plants.

Chemistry and Molecular Aspects of Drug Design and Action
CRC Press | ISBN: 0849390060 | 2008-04-24 | PDF | 384 pages | 14. Mb | RS

Drawn from the work of world-renowned pharmacochemistry scientists, this book explores research that defines the emergence of rational drug design. Offering insight from their own specialized subjects, these pioneers highlight the variety of approaches being employed in this field, including those that start by considering either molecular mechanisms of drug action, or the metabolizing enzyme action occurring in the structure of a drug molecule. Another approach they explore is one that starts from the pathobiochemistry and pathophysiology of target diseases. Furthermore, the book also considers drug development that makes use of already developed compounds stored in data banks.
