When Sami (Nicolas Cazale) causes the death of a police officer, his family sends him to help his grandfather (Kheireddine Defdaf) work his farm. Sami is a fish out of water, but soon connects with two very different cousins. Mohammed Majd portrays a drug-dealing hedonist, while Amira Casar plays a widow whose guilt about her dead husband's terrorist activities causes her to do charity work. She touches Sami, but that may not be enough to help everyone out of their difficult lives. Under Another Sky was screened at the Vancouver Film Festival.)

Independent filmmaker Douglas Buck wrote and directed this anthology of three short subjects, each of which takes an unflinching look at disturbing secrets lurking beneath the surfaces of several "ordinary" families. In Cutting Moments, a housewife (Nicca Ray) who has come to the end of her rope as she tries to reach out to her emotionally vacant husband (Gary Betsworth) reacts with a shocking act of self-inflicted violence, which soon spirals out of control. In Home, Betsworth stars as an emotionally abusive husband and father (himself the victim of a vindictive and unfeeling parent) whose random and persistent cruelty finally manifests itself in a shocking act of revenge when his wife (Christine Caleo) and daughter (Jayne Deely) take a stand and refuse to obey his commands. And Prologue concerns Billie Anders (Sally Conway), a 17-year-old girl who returns home after a year in a rehabilitation facility following an incident which cost her both hands and put her in a wheelchair. As Billie deals with the many ways in which her friends, her family, and her hometown have changed, she decides to confront the man whose actions caused her pain. The three films featured in Family Portraits were created over a span of seven years and were screened individually at a number of film festivals before being compiled for feature release both theatrically and on video.

Leur attraction mutuelle est immédiate et violente et Suzanne décide de tout quitter pour vivre cette passion dévorante.

Ransom is a 1996 thriller film, starring Mel Gibson, Rene Russo, and Gary Sinise and directed by Ron Howard. The movie was nominated Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for Mel Gibson, and was the 5th highest grossing movie of 1996 in the United States. The original idea for the story was from an episode of The United States Steel Hour named "Fearful Decision" that aired in 1954. It was then a remake of the 1956 feature-length film of the same name written by Richard Maibaum and Cyril Hume starring Glenn Ford, Donna Reed and Leslie Nielsen. The film also was influenced by King's Ransom, a police procedural novel by Ed McBain which was, in turn, the basis for Akira Kurosawa's 1963 film High and Low.

A filmmaker tries to sort out the scattered emotional baggage of his love life in Entropy. However, between his career in film and her career as a model, they don't spend as much time together as they'd like, and they begin to drift apart; when Stella one day announces she's pregnant, Jake displays no particular enthusiasm for the idea of raising a child, and Stella ends up having an abortion. Eventually, the two break up and Jake finds himself married to a woman he barely knows, not quite sure what happened. As he muddles through his romantic problems, Jake also has to deal with the often puzzling hierarchy and the bizarre office politics of Hollywood. A rare independent effort from Phil Joanou, who previously directed State of Grace, Final Analysis and a wealth of popular music videos, Entropy was the opening night attraction at the 1999 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.

Jake Walsch semble promis à un magnifique avenir. Cinéaste de talent, il a fait ses classes dans le clip en signant des films consacrés au groupe U2. Aujourd'hui, il se demande comment il en est arrivé là. Il y a un an, il rencontrait Stella, une charmante jeune mannequin française. Leur coup de foudre immédiat les conduit à s'installer ensemble, Stella renonçant à sa carrière.

His morbidly obese mother, Bonnie (Darlene Cates) has done little except eat since her husband's death, and longs only to see Arnie live to the age of eighteen. With Bonnie unable to care for the children by herself, Gilbert has taken responsibility for repairing their old farmhouse and looking after Arnie, who has a habit of climbing the town water tower if he is left unsupervised for too long, while his sisters Amy (Laura Harrington) and Ellen (Mary Kate Schellhardt) do the chores and the cooking. The relationship between the brothers is of both care and protection, as Gilbert continually enforces the "Nobody touches Arnie" policy. A new "FoodLand" supermarket has opened, threatening the small Lamson's Grocery store where Gilbert works. In addition, Gilbert is having an affair with a married woman, Betty Carver (Mary Steenburgen).

Son frère Paul, qui est parti avec sa future femme et qu'il n'a pas vu depuis une dizaine d'années, est le seul à pouvoir l'aider. Sa petite amie Marie parvient à le convaincre d'aller le voir pour en parler avec lui. Paul a l'air d'être partant. Ils vont partir à deux pour une semaine, sur l'insistance de Pierre et de Marie qui pense pouvoir garder un oeil sur l'état du foie de Paul...
