Sommet de la trop courte carrière de réalisateur de Marin Karmitz, dans la foulée de son implacable Camarades en 1969, Coup pour coup est sans doute un vrai bijou de mise en scène. Au-delà de l'uppercut politique, vigoureux coup de boule dans la prétention et le mépris patronal, c'est à un beau morceau de cinéma que Karmitz nous convie, forme d'apothéose avant de raccrocher la caméra. Hautement crédible et sans pathos, Coup pour coup s'impose en étourdissante démonstration de free cinema à la française. Tourné avec un souci pointilleux de réalisme, au cœur de son sujet, avec la complicité active d'ouvrières fortement impliquées, le film impose sa force visuelle comme un écho tranchant et farouche au ludisme de la Nouvelle Vague française. Montage brut, travail hypnotique sur la bande-son, intransigeance esthétique, Coup pour Coup saisit à la gorge et serre fort. Sans jamais s'épuiser. Exemplaire, didactique dans le bons sens du terme, Karmitz livre une pédagogie révolutionnaire pratique qui impressionne. Et achève de convaincre dans une envolée discursive finale superbe et âpre. La force du film ne passera pas inaperçue puisque, dès l’année suivante, Jean-Luc Godard en proposera une relecture avec Yves Montand et Jane Fonda, ironiquement nommée "Tout va bien".

Marin Karmitz's 1972 Coup pour Coup (Blow for Blow), a film about a group of women mounting a successful strike at a textiles factory, the nature of work is clear: there is exploitation (long hours, sexual harassment, physical exertion and foremen and women whose job it is to prevent you from slacking off),there is a site (the factory itself, which becomes a fortress complete with ad hoc crèche, kitchen and sleeping quarters during the strike) and there is an enemy (the boss himself, who is later held hostage in his office and forbidden to use the toilet, as the women themselves had been). The final scene is a freeze-frame of the workers united in struggle accompanied by a voice-over extolling the virtues of continued resistance'.

Moonfleet is a 1955 film by Fritz Lang which was inspired by the novel Moonfleet by J. Meade Falkner, though significant alterations were made in the characters and plot. A gothic melodrama set in the eighteenth century, the film is about John Mohune, a young orphan, played by Jon Whiteley, who is sent to the Dorset village of Moonfleet to stay with an old friend of his mother's, Jeremy Fox. Fox, played by Stewart Granger, is a morally ambiguous character, an elegant gentleman involved with smugglers and pirates.

1757 en Angleterre. Le jeune orphelin John Mohune arrive à Moonfleet, petit port isolé, pour retrouver un ami de sa mère, Jeremy Fox, flibustier notoire. Jeremy Fox l'envoie au collège mais John s'échappe et retourne au chateau de Mohune qui appartint à sa famille et qu'occupe aujourd'hui Fox. John apprend par lord Ashwood l'existence d'un diamant magnifique que son grand-père lui a laissé en héritage. Avec Fox, il se met à la recherche du joyau.

Professeur d'économie dans une université du Connecticut, Walter Vale, la soixantaine, a perdu le goût de l'enseignement et mène désormais une vie routinière. Il tente de combler le vide de son existence en apprenant le piano, mais sans grand succès... Lorsque l'Université l'envoie à Manhattan pour assister à une conférence sa vie va basculer. Il rencontre Tarek, d'origine syrienne, et sa petite amie sénégalaise Zainab (jeune couple qui s'est installé dans l'appartement qu'il possède là-bas : victimes d'une escroquerie immobilière, Tarek et Zainab n'ont nulle part ailleurs où aller ; d'abord un rien réticent, Walter accepte de laisser les deux jeunes gens habiter avec lui). Tarek musicien doué, insiste pour lui apprendre à jouer du djembé. Tandis que les deux hommes deviennent amis, les différences d'âge, de culture et de caractère s'estompent. Lorsque Tarek, immigré clandestin, est arrêté par la police dans le métro, puis menacé d'expulsion, Walter va tout mettre en œuvre pour venir en aide à son ami...

They proceed to beat up an elderly vagrant under a motorway and interrupt an attempted gang rape of a woman in an abandoned casino by a rival gang of camouflage wearing Walts led by Billyboy[2] (Richard Connaught). They subsequently get in a brawl with their rivals. Upon hearing the sounds of police sirens, Alex and his gang flee, stealing a car and driving into the countryside. They then gain entry to the home of Mr. Alexander, a writer, under false pretenses and assault him while violently raping his wife (Adrienne Corri), all while Alex sings Singin' in the Rain. When they return to the milk bar, Alex strikes Dim when he interrupts a female patron who is singing the Ode to Joy from the final movement of the Ninth Symphony of Beethoven, a composer Alex admires.

La violence règne partout dans une Angleterre d'un futur proche. Alex et sa bande s'attaquent à qui bon leur semble, multipliant meurtres, viols et passages à tabac. Arrêté, Alex est condamné à 14 ans de prison. Il accepte de suivre une nouvelle thérapie expérimentale instituée par le gouvernement pour lutter contre la criminalité...

Leurs parents respectifs décident donc de les envoyer en séjour linguistique en Angleterre, à Ramsgate, pour qu'ils se perfectionnent dans la langue de Shakespeare. Préférant nettement leurs habituelles vacances à Saint-Tropez, les deux amis se disent que le plan n'est pas si mauvais, compte tenu de la réputation peu farouche des jeunes Anglaises. À peine arrivés, Jean-Pierre et Alain partent en chasse. Mais les grandes manœuvres amoureuses ne se révèlent pas aussi faciles que prévues car les demoiselles ne semblent pas immédiatement sensibles au charme des french lovers.

France, 1959. When Jean-Pierre and Alain fail their high school exams, their parents cancel their summer holiday in St. Tropez and send them off to Ramsgate in England to study English. Far from being disheartened by the prospect of having to spend weeks in a wet, foggy land, learning an impossible language, the two lads are brimming with enthusiasm. They can hardly wait to try out their seductive charms on English girls who, they believe, are passionate lovers. This illusion is quickly dispelled when Jean-Pierre and Alain discover that English girls cannot even kiss properly. Already disillusioned with this backward country, the two French lads soon decide to abandon their Norman conquests and instead tag along with their fellow students. In no time they are discovering the joys and pangs of teenage love in a cold Kentish climate...

Lors de la retraite de Russie, André Duvalier, jeune lieutenant, est secouru par une fort belle jeune femme sur les cotes baltiques. Elle l'emmène au château du baron von Leppe et disparaît. André Duvalier est frappé par la ressemblance de la jeune fille et le portrait de la femme du baron, morte il y a vingt-cinq ans.
